The New Barb Set (H90) is NOT GOOD: Feedback and Analysis

    Posted: 18 Feb 2020 12:36 PM PST

    Hi Redditors,

Over on the official forums, we've been testing and discussing the new Barb set, Horde of the Ninety Savages (H90 for short), and the Frenzy build it is intended for, and our conclusions are not good:

    • The build needs additional DR (7-8% per stack minimum) in the 4-piece bonus for solo play
    • The build needs additional damage in the 6-piece bonus
    • The 2-piece bonus is fundamentally broken

Without additional damage, the build lacks any distinct identity and does nothing especially well. It won't push solo GRs as well as Zodiac Rend or Pro-Slam, it won't speed-farm T16 and Bounties as fast as every other major build, it can't speed low GRs for gems as well as other major builds, and it's not as good as other classes for an meta- and off-meta RGK role in groups. In other words, it does nothing very well, and plays similarly to HOTA (but with way less toughness and way higher gear requirements).

It also has some steep gear requirements--the steepest of any Barb build except Pro-Slam--and is going to be a nightmare for low-Paragon/early-Season players to optimize.

Finally, there's the broken 2-piece bonus. Right now, we get the bonus from Feared or Frozen mobs. Okay, cool, except that both are hard CC and will quickly make monsters go CC immune. So will Stun, which is applied from Frenzy, because Undisputed Champion grants all Frenzy runes.

Elite, RG, it doesn't matter. In a very short span of time (consider how many Stuns Frenzy applies in a few seconds), they all go immune to hard CC, and when that happens, that 2-piece bonus is effectively worthless. If that isn't addressed, the set is dead on arrival--practically useless compared to every other Barb set/build.

I'm really bothered by the way this has not been addressed by the developers, and why there hasn't been some kind of post about this. Just change the Fear to Stun and the Frozen to Slowed and KABOOM! The 2-piece set bonus is not only fixed, it's very, very good. It's really that simple.

I don't know why we have to stress this during the patch that is, in part, focused on the new Barb set, but developers: Please don't let H90 release broken.

Check out the complete Focused Feedback Thread here, and join the discussion!

Finally, for those who don't know, Bastion's Revered currently suffers from two bugs. The first prohibits you from benefiting from certain kinds of elemental damage. More info on that can be found in the Bug Report Thread.

The second bug is that Primal versions of the weapon drop with 1 less affix than regular Ancient versions of the item. More info can be found here.

    D4 Feedback: Runewords

    Posted: 18 Feb 2020 05:37 PM PST

Current iteration of Runewords shown in D4 demo:

    • Socketed items will have two sockets. One socket for a Condition/Trigger rune that activates the second socket, the Effect rune (and possibly Gems).
    • Example:
      • Amn rune - Condition: When you freeze an enemy, activate the next socketed rune.
      • Ko rune - Effect: When active, reduce a random skill cooldown by 15%.

I believe they mentioned exploring leveling up runes in some fashion, but I can't confirm that.

    Feedback:

This works on the surface, but not very exciting or special. It could certainly be more interesting. How?

Bring back Secret Runewords from Diablo II.

Bringing back Runes and calling them Runewords is clearly a callback to D2, among many things in D4.

    D2 Iteration:

Runes when put into sockets simply functioned like Gems, giving slightly more enhanced basic properties such as Adds 5-30 Fire Damage, or Hit Blinds Target.

But there were secret Runeword combinations as well, where if you combined the correct runes into the correct item type that is a Common tier item (since they had no affixes like Magics, Rares, etc.), they would turn it into a Runeword item with several new additional affixes, making the item far more special, similar to Unique tier items.

    • D2 Example: Using a Common 5 Socket Weapon, place Amn + Ral + Mal + Ist + Ohm runes in it to turn it into the item Call to Arms.
      • Added 11 new affixes, such as +1 to All Skills, +40% Attack Speed, +2-6 To Battle Command skill, 30% Magic Find, etc.

    D4 Iteration:

Runes can still function as they've shown in any two socketed items, with a Condition/Trigger and Effect. This is far more interesting than D2's runes when they weren't used to form a Runeword, and might actually be useful outside of a secret Runeword. Side note: I encourage class/skill specific runes as well.

But combining the correct Condition and Effect rune within a specific item type that the Runeword requires should turn it into a far more special item like D2, except the newly added affixes would be designed around the property of the Condition/Effet the runes used would have outside of the Runeword.

    • D4 Example: Using a Common Socket Sacred Globe (one of the Sorceress's wand types), place Amn + Ko runes in it to turn it into the item Bygone Gelida.
      • Still has rune effects when freezing an enemy (Condition), reduce a random skill cooldown by 15% (Effect).
      • Adds an additional 7 affixes, such as +30% chill effect duration, +20% chill build speed to freeze enemies, Frost Nova has 50% chance to ignore crowd control immunities, +2-3 Skill Ranks to Glacial Spike, +2-4 Skill Ranks to Frozen Orb, etc.

    In conclusion...

Don't tell us outright what Secret Runewords are out there!

Imagine the fun the community would have getting their hands on the game knowing that secret Runewords exist and diving headlong into the game uncovering more and more the first several weeks/months of the game. Logging into reddit seeing someone post a newly found runeword for the first time would be hype!

Sure, the secrecy would dissipate overtime, but at least Runes and Runewords serve two purposes:

    1. Giving a new interesting Condition/Effect mechanic to any item.
    2. Making Common items have a unique purpose rather than just being careless scrap.

Who knows, maybe more secret Runewords could be secretly added every season to discover!

tl;dr Keep the Trigger/Effect iteration they've shown, but bring back Secret Runewords for the community to discover like in Diablo II, except when used on the specified Common tier item the Runeword requires, keep the Condition/Effect the two runes would normally provide, but design its interesting additional new affixes (provided by the discovered Secret Runeword) around synergizing with the Condition/Effect property that the runes have given the item. This is essentially replacing the boring D2 rune effects when used outside of a Secret Runeword, so its still worth using D4 runes in non-Common Socket items (Magics, Rares, etc.).

    Quarterly updates?

    Posted: 18 Feb 2020 06:23 AM PST

I remember back in November we were told we would be getting quarterly updates on Diablo 4, and what the Devs have been working on. Has Blizzard given any date on that since it should be coming up very soon?

    Perpetual stew

    Posted: 18 Feb 2020 11:16 AM PST

Diablo could do with a perpetual stew mode.

By which I mean items actually lose durability and can't be repaired an unlimited number of times so they have to be replaced or saved for when really needed. For example losing one maximum durability every time it is repaired.

Got a big bad boss fight coming up? Better whip out that rare weapon/armour that can turn the tide of battle but has limited durability.

Of course the intention is to upgrade the quality/tier of all your items but it will add extra much needed challenge/longevity to the series.

    Thoughts?

    beating ancients nightmare

    Posted: 18 Feb 2020 04:16 AM PST

Hi, i have trouble beating ancients in nightmare, i'm a level 56 paladin, with maxed vengeance, a lot of points in conviction and some in resists auras, i have also decents points into holy shield.

The thing is, one of the ancient got lighting enchant, which made me have to use the resist all aura. This way i hit them less than if i used conviction.

They don't hit me that much, but i end up having no potion before killing the first guy and the one throwing weapons is just too hard to hit.

My items are aldur's rythm jagged star, hwanin helmet, whistans's shield.

I don't really want to grind levels so no need to advise me that.

I also use "enjoy sp mod".

PSA: New windows 10 update disables in game screenshots for D3

    Posted: 18 Feb 2020 02:10 AM PST

Basically think its the new update since I have all my screenshots up to the date it updated. And that's where it stops, missing tons that I thought I took. Did the usual things, made security exemptions for those folders, changed all the keybindings, used a program to monitor file creation to see if it was going somewhere else but nope. Screenshot feature is currently dead unless you switch over to Xbox game bar which I had to do. feels clunky

Just bought the game on ps4. A question tho..

    Posted: 18 Feb 2020 09:18 AM PST

Is there a way to skip the new player limitations or whatever they are called? Such as not being able to do a challange rift, unless you do a GR. Or the story limits on master difficulty being locked. Im used to playing on pc and not have those limitations and totally forgot they existed.

Should I buy Diablo III or IIII

    Posted: 18 Feb 2020 06:25 AM PST

I've been a long time fan of the Diablo series since I watched my dad play Diablo II from a very young age and now that he built me a good PC, I was wondering whether I should get Diablo III or wait for Diablo III.

Edit: I just realized that I wrote IIII instead of IV.

    Posted: 17 Feb 2020 10:31 PM PST

First time playing since 2014 and I want those stash tabs, but I see you have to do the season journey? How long does that take and whats the best class to speed run it? Can I only get one tab this season?

I saw the new season is starting march 1st.

Primal Ancient Flavor of Time - What stat to reroll?

Primal Ancient Flavor of Time - What stat to reroll?

    https://preview.redd.it/0k5tl7xdsnh41.png?width=432&format=png&auto=webp&s=95aaecccc855769e0eacd58eef6791b0b35e6b65

Really happy to finally get a primal version of an item I actually use. Would love to get some advice on which stat I should reroll before I make any commitments. I play a Monk.

Right now I'm personally thinking of rerolling the movement speed to Crit Damage or Attack Speed. I can add some dexterity with an augment.

Here's the overall build I'm playing with at the moment: https://www.d3planner.com/873374134

So, what do you guys think? Thanks in advance!

PS: I noticed in d3planner whenever I import my character it omits my RoRG from the cube jewelry slot and I have to add it manually. Anybody know why?
