D4 Proposed Skill System: Unlock all skills while levelling up THEN gain skill points to specialize

    Posted: 02 Dec 2019 08:42 PM PST

Im basically proposing a hybrid system between D2 and D3.

You unlock Rank 1 of all skills while levelling up. You dont have to spend a skill point for it. Once you've unlocked all skills, (i.e. max level), you start to gain skill points that you can use to rank up your preferred skills permanently.

This way, you are free to experiment with your builds while levelling up, but also allows you specialize - to "create" a character that is yours.

For new players, this also means you wont be punished for poor skill choices at the start of the game, when you dont know what the hell youre doing.

Skills being always freely swappable wont be a problem, since naturally you would equip the skills with high ranks.

You can be a Fireball Sorc, or a Werebear Druid, or any other character and be distinct from other characters.

Does anyone know of an online database (like the Arreat Summit) containing unique and set items that are specific to Classic?

    Posted: 02 Dec 2019 05:43 PM PST

I can only find item databases that include the expansion items, and was wondering if anyone was aware of one that separates the two. Thanks for any help.

edit: sorry I meant to say this is for Diablo II

Has Uber Diablo in S19 opened the Pandora's box? (I hope so)

    Posted: 02 Dec 2019 03:19 AM PST

TL;DR: Uber Diablo is awesome. I hope Blizzard capitalizes on it, improves it, and brings us more Uber bosses in the next seasons.

With the new patch and season 19, the last guy working on D3 made a really good job:

    • 2 new sets and some reworked items
    • funny season theme
    • and an awesome Uber Diablo appears when you reach the maximum cap of the season theme! This is so refreshing! Reaching this maximum cap is not really easy (but not really hard) to do, then Uber Diablo is really strong, the fight lasts more than 1/10th of a second, I love it!

For these reasons, I really want to say thank you to the (small) D3 team! Of course, there are always room for improvement, as many threads talked about during the last days:

    • add dungeon sets for the new sets
    • give us an achievement for killing Uber Diablo. And I mean, this can be done before the end of the season, it's really nothing to add, and it means a lot to us.
    • there have been some effort put into the loot table of Uber Diablo, we can feel it. Maybe some more effort would be great, but please don't make it abuseable, where it becomes the most efficient way to grind (XP, loot, or mats). Balancing the different rewards of endgame is not easy, but it would be cool to have Uber Diablo as an alternative way of getting interesting rewards. In a word: some new endgame!

Ok, so can we consider that Uber Diablo opened the Pandora's box? Please tell me we will see some more Uber bosses / endgame content in the next seasons? This will make the D4 wait a lot sweeter. Here are a few ideas:

    • bring us one new Uber boss for each new season. There are lots of possibilities : Baal, Mephisto, Duriel, Andariel… but why not also some Angiris? I'd really love to face Uber Imperius and kick his ass! The model is already in the game, and some attack animations too. There are many possibilities, and please take your time, just add them one by one, season after season. And yes, once the work is done for a new Uber boss, it doesn't have to replace the previous Uber boss, it can just be added, with maybe some different ways / places to invoke them ?
    • maybe we could invoke some Uber bosses (the big three in Old Tristram ruins?) by completing all objectives on the map? I mean doing all bounties, killing all 4 keywardens, and killing all the bosses? This would be painful to do, but if it leads us to an epic fight, with some interesting reward, that could be worth it, no?
    • many new ways of invoking Uber bosses can be found. What's cool about S19, is that the season theme is really perfect for an invokation. But there is really no need to shape a season around a way to invoke bosses. Grandeur and Nightmare were awesome seasons.

I hope this reddit community will give Blizzard a lot of new interesting ideas around this. I mean, we all know D3 is a dead game (officially, it's a Classic game), but we still play it because we love it. And getting just a bit of new (end game) content regularly seems doable for what remains of the D3 team. We really should encourage them to continue in this way.

    LF Group on USWEST

    Posted: 02 Dec 2019 06:45 PM PST

    Hey Fam,

Just looking to see if there are any groups forming for USWEST on Friday. I've seen the google sheet floating around but it seems squads forming are for USEAST only. Are there any groups looking to form for USWEST? I'm looking to play all weekend as a druid. :)

    Thanks!

    Model viewer in the game.

    Posted: 02 Dec 2019 04:58 AM PST

Now that D4 is using PBR realtime rendering and the polycount + texture resolution of characters and monster are way superior than previous titles it is a very nice adition to the game to have a model viewer inside of it, something like how they presented many characters during blizzcon. Not only you can appreciate the game art more closely but also showcase the blizzard polish of each character. Also, good reference for game artists as well. For example, Uncharted 4 has this feature.

Anyone else dislike the design execution of seasons?

    Posted: 02 Dec 2019 04:29 PM PST

I'm looking at D3 and thinking ahead for D4. I understand the appeal of seasons, it's a very obvious one.

But I think it's terrible game design when you basically completely scrab the permanent realms. Like literally nobody plays off-season and I think this is a mistake design-wise and I'd like to see more thought being put into it come D4.

A lot of players like to chase the 'fresh' seasons, but some players like myself like to have a sense of permanence.. something that it feels 0 thought has been put into D3 by the devs. I hope this changes for D4.

In D4, I'm hoping for more than just regular seasons. We should have on-going events for all types of players.

    Posted: 02 Dec 2019 07:35 AM PST

I've been a D3 on-again, off-again player. One of the things that has always been on my mind is that in D3, seasons are great, but over time as players earn all of the class sets, unless you're pushing, there's not a lot of reason to continue playing throughout the week.

    In D4, I'm hoping for:

    • Smaller events happening throughout the season
    • Weekly activities that encourage players to come back for community challenges (like X number of world bosses defeated)
    • Weekly completions that award bonus items (in addition to challenge rift)
    • Off-season events (like Darkening) that are quarterly, not just yearly.

What else? Any one else have ideas on what you'd like to see from D4?

Introduce PVP like Dark Souls did! (Player-like NPCs!)

    Posted: 02 Dec 2019 05:50 AM PST

Imagine you're casually exploring some region, doing the campaign for the first time. Since you're playing solo, every once in a while you stumble upon some other player roaming around, but don't really interact or group up, business as usual.

As you continue exploring the place, you see what appears to be another player, a sorceress, a few dozen yards from you, standing still, arms crossed, but she actually "says" something, which gets you confused, how can a player use an audio emote? After a few seconds, she starts throwing spells at you. You're startled, unsure if you fight back or run!

This NPC Sorceress uses the default class skills and you mistook her for a player. After killing her and getting some sweet loot (Maybe some unique crafting materials available only through this kind of "invader"?), you realize its actually a NPC.

So, this kind of encounter is basically what Dark Souls did with "NPC/AI invasions", to introduce the player to PVP. Path of Exile also did a lot of this on the early years, adding other random AI "exiles" for you to fight, but this idea fell out of favor due to the lots of different game systems they added, but I always found it really fun and immersive.

These AI enemies should have randomized classes, stats, items and skillsets, to always keep it fresh. You could also fight some enemies with skills/archetypes which are not playable, to tease players with future classes, test their reactions, etc...

Basic RW Guide & Paladin Direction...

    Posted: 02 Dec 2019 10:48 AM PST

PlugY and playing 1.13... currently level 20. Any thoughts on going Hammerdin vs. Zealot? I've done both years ago (2005 and back) but being freshly back to D2 LoD I am unsure so I wanted to get fresh opinions. Also, with either direction would anyone care to offer some ideas on skill point allocation as well as stat points? Ultimately I'd like to build this fella into a fairly robust magic finder who can deal some damage but keep me interested in running him.

Last... are there any basic runeword guides (in particular I am wanting to see what I can do with a fair amount of basic runes and a three socketed sceptor that I found with +1 to Zeal in Act2 Normal)?

    Thank you!

I got a primal In-Geom and have no idea what to do with it but there must be something

    Posted: 02 Dec 2019 10:31 AM PST

So I got a primal in-geom, no socket, so I can reroll the Strength if I want, and hit it with a ramaldis and use it on another character. Question though - what class could use this effectively? I was thinking maybe a Pally w/ the new set. Is there a class/build I can use this effectively on? Thanks everyone.

Diablo III lifetime sales *in 2019*

    Posted: 02 Dec 2019 11:56 AM PST

    Hey all,

Was browsing the list of most games sold across multiple platforms. Most of these were quite obvious but D3 really surprised me (I love it and own it across three systems but still).

However, the article lists 30 Million copies since release to 2015. Obviously there should be more since then so has anyone seen updated info? I found some references to PC sales topping 5 million but nothing that looked as official.

    Haedrigs and hardcore/softcore

    Posted: 02 Dec 2019 11:28 AM PST

Title pretty much sums it up... I have a season softcore AOV crusader where I got super lucky on drops and haven't completed any of the chapters yet. Decided I wanted to level a hardcore barbarian and now I'm wondering if I complete the season journey chapters 2-4 for gift on softcore, can I open the mail on my hardcore player? It's my first season playing both and none of my clan mates knew... and general chat is well.... general chat most days

Edited for clarification of the question

Hey, I’m looking for a bit of advice dealing with GR 70 on Diablo 3.

    Posted: 02 Dec 2019 09:44 AM PST

So, I'm a paragon level 900 witch doctor main in quite a little quandary. I'm more than ready to move onto primal level gear but I am finding it incredibly difficult to one-man GR70.

Perhaps I should explain what my current build is, I'd appreciate any and all critiques; so, I'm equipped with haunt in mind as my major damage dealer. I have Jade harvester's mercy set bonus fully activated and the endless walk for the damage reduction and damage increase. Now, I use the ring of royal grandeur so that I can equip Quetzalcoatl (The mask that makes haunt deal damage in half of the time) with the haunting girdle. Otherwise I'm equipped with The barber and Coils of the first spider; now, as for my legendary powers, I have the harvester's 10-stacking ability for my soul harvest while also having the short man's finger ability so that my gargantuans act as a large set of mildly "cute" meat-shield triplets.

As for my skills and abilities? They encompass each ability that is relevant to Haunt and soul harvest. And if it means anything, most of my gear are ancient legendaries. I thank you for your precious time. And, sorry for the unusual text organisations; I'm a mobile user.

*I know that this might better belong on r/Diablo3 but, I think that I will find a better quantity of people who may have interest in my plea here.
