    Is the Sin War trilogy worth reading?

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 11:26 AM PST

    I remember a long, long time ago, seeing advertisements in the Starcraft Battle net for the Sin War trilogy of books. I have been getting back into reading more this past couple months and was wondering if it would be worth trying to find a copy of them. Can anyone weigh in on if they are actually well written? Obviously I'm not looking for the return of Hemingway, but are they able to exist on their own, or are they meant to only really appeal to die hard fans?

    ACT Bosses in Diablo 2

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 08:08 AM PST

    I recently started playing Diablo 2 with a friend for the first time and holy shit the first 2 act bosses destroyed us. At least with Andariel we could kite her, but Duriel demolished us. We cheesed him using town portals and summoned golems to do a little bit of damage and flee through a town portal. Are they supposed to be so difficult or are we just booty cheeks at the game.

    D4 & PvP: Classic PvP Modes/Battle Royale/Battlegrounds/Open World PvP.

    D4 & PvP: Classic PvP Modes/Battle Royale/Battlegrounds/Open World PvP.

    Hi, reddit! In the weeks prior to BlizzConline I can't help but think about other aspects of D4 that haven't been the main focus of discussions from the community or the devs, namely PvP in this case. We've seen from the gameplay trailer and learned from last year's BlizzCon that there will be some sort of PvP in PvP zones across the open world of D4. But is that enough? Maybe, but I also believe that there's so much potential and opportunity (especially with Ladder Seasons) for mini-PvP games and modes outside the regular game experience.

    Enter the Battle Royale, or as I prefer to call it Highlander because of the modern connotations of the former term. I assume you are pretty familiar with the basics: X number of players start at the edges of the map, trying to find and kill one another until there's only one left. However, I'd like to inject more of 'Diablo' into that mode essentially making it a PvPvE:

    • At the start you select class and/or prebuilt character (Fire Sorc/Wolf Druid/WW Barb/Upheaval Barb etc);
    • As you progress through the map you encounter treasure chests and mini-bosses to fight. You get item and skill upgrades from them (with some RNG elements here and there). At some point your path with cross with another player and you have to deal with them as well;
    • Finally, when all other players are dead either by your hand or they were felled by the monsters/traps, you get to fight the final boss using the items and skill upgrades you've picked along the way.

    Mock-up of a PvP map

    Edit: https://i.imgur.com/xJj8FTi.png if the image doesn't load.

    That's the quick overview. Now, why use preset or totally new characters for the mode? Because, I believe, and it's been proven by the failure to deliver the Arena PvP to D3, that PvP balance in Diablo games is extremely hard. There are so many unpredictable player interactions depending on gear and skill choices that I don't think it's fair to expect a fair PvP balanced game, at least not for the initial game. There's a case to be made that some skills should be balanced differently for PvP and I agree with that and would very much like it to be the case, but even with that it's still a colossal task on the dev's side to balance properly.

    One key element for me is map interactiveness. Maps should have varied layouts, monster spawns and hazards to keep the experience fresh.

    However, I also think that there should be a mode where you can PvP with your decked out PvE character, but I don't think it can be considered the 'supported PvP mode' if the balance is out of whack so it could be the 'just for fun' mode.

    Of course, with a PvP mode like this Blizzard have the chance to introduce cosmetic purchases D4 could have a continuous revenue stream outside of box/expansion purchases to support the game in the long run.

    I mainly wanted to focus on the BR/Highlander mode for D4, but I'd like to hear about what you think about 2v2/3v3 arena modes like the one promised for D3, Battlegrounds and duels as a form of PvP for the game.

    Is there anywhere I can purchase a 36x24 Diablo poster (Wide)

    I'd like one that represents the series, not just one game. And I noticed blizzard merch site only has a tall poster...

    (PS4) Diablo 3 Inventory Bug

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 12:08 PM PST

    [I'm new to the community]

    Has anyone else experienced a bug in D3 where inventory items don't show up, and a duplicate of the equipped item shows up instead, in the inventory column?

    It's obnoxious, and has happened continuously on my play through.

    Any remedies beyond quit and join?
