    A tale of three Andariels

    Posted: 04 Aug 2020 07:43 PM PDT

I've been rolling for an Ancient Dystopian Goggles for weeks now. In this time of spending countless blood shards, this is what Blizzard has graced me with: three primal ancient Andariel's Visage, 2 of which are the exact same down to the secondary rolls. Thanks Blizz!

Legendary gems are a criminally underdeveloped aspect of the game.

    Posted: 04 Aug 2020 12:01 PM PDT

Legendary gems are a brilliant idea that inexplicably have not received the development attention that they deserve.

Here's one VERY simple idea you could bake into these items to greatly increase the longevity of the game for the casual player, you could add bonuses at gem levels 50 and 75. These are very reasonable gr levels that a casual player can reach at this point of the game's life.

Even if they're bog standard, small flat bonus to damage or damage reduction, the fact that the game has set you a target to reach to achieve those minor boosts plays on human psychology, that's enough to challenge the average casual player to keep pushing, keep optimizing until they hit those GR levels. Level 25 gems are extremely easy to hit without even optimising your build, so a casual player could mistakenly believe they've seen everything when the game has stopped giving them those baked-in targets to shoot for.

The fact that the game is explicitly telling you that it expects you to reach the appropriate gr levels to boost your gems to those levels, the natural reaction is to push yourself to get there because you've only "beaten" the game once you've reached the gr levels that the game expects from you.

Blizzard could of course be much more creative than just adding flat bonuses to gem levels 50 and 75, but the fact that this very simple opportunity to add to the game's lifespan for the casual player hasn't be seized upon is baffling. The appeal of RPG's is fundamentally based on human psychology and this is an extremely easy way to play on that.

First time getting into the series, finished Diablo 1. My thoughts...

    Posted: 04 Aug 2020 03:56 AM PDT

I had Diablo 2 for years, but I never could get into it. Years later, after having a sour taste in my mouth from the shithole the Monster Hunter community has turned into, I decided to get into Diablo after looking at the D2 Battlechest I owned. Everyone always says to start with Diablo 2, and that the first one is obsolete, but I honestly hate when people say that about ANY game. I wanted to get INTO the series, so I started with Diablo 1, and I'm playing them in order...

HOLY FUCKING SHIT THIS GAME HAS RUINED MY LIFE IT'S SO GODDAMN ADDICTING IT HURTS

I freaking LOVE this game. Let me go bit by bit on the things I love about Diablo 1.

    - The artstyle and aesthetics are cool as hell. I've always been a sucker for 90's CGI and "ancient graphics", and that paired with a dark, brooding atmosphere blends together so perfectly it hurts. I saw that the original concept of the game used stop-motion instead of CGI, and I think I would've liked it just as much, if not even more. The music is also really freaking good; nothing too catchy, but it fits the game extremely well. Even then, I constantly hear the Tristram theme in my head.

    - The story and lore is also neat. It's very "OOH-WAH-AH-AH-AH" along with the accompanying aesthetic, but in a good way. I read the Diablo 1 manual, and I freaking love how it has in-lore explanations for how each spell works in the game's world. Most games wouldn't even pay attention to that and just roll with "It's magic, do I really have to explain it?".

-The gameplay loop is one of the most addicting I've played in years. Sure, the combat just consists of clicking on an enemy until it dies, and sometimes moving away from an attack, but it's the gameplay systems around that simple combat that makes it so good. Seeing that rare weapon on the ground, identifying it, and seeing its amazing stats makes me mega-nut every freaking time.

-I love how each character can use each spell and piece of equipment, as long as they have the stats for it. The best shit in the game is only available to certain classes, but that's from a restriction of that character's max stats. Since you could learn every spell in the game, it makes me want to "catch 'em all" and learn every spell I can.

-I was also playing the PS1 version of Diablo 1 on Vita at the same time, playing it whenever I was away from my computer. People say the version's inferior to the PC version, and while it technically is, that doesn't mean it isn't worth playing. Because I played it on a portable system, and because I look at each game in a series as its own thing, I saw the game's inferiority as something that makes it special. In other words, in my mind, I was playing "Diablo Mini" or "Diablo Portable" and not "Diablo 1 but worse".

-I love how the game encourages replayability by only picking a few quests from each small list, as opposed to seeing every quest in the game on one go. I'm not that big into the development history of Diablo 1 (at least, not yet), but it really feels like they tried to make a game you could play for the rest of your life.

This is one of the best games I've played in a while, and I still like playing it even after I beat it once. I started playing Diablo 2, and I can see why people say it's superior to the first game in every way, but that doesn't mean Diablo 1 is obsolete. Of course, if you can only get one or the other, Diablo 2 is the way to go, but Diablo 1 is so easy to get that there's no reason not to play it.

I think I'm gonna fall in love with this series.

    Concern over Diablo 4's story

    Posted: 04 Aug 2020 05:34 PM PDT

I will preface right now and say I don't know what the story is going to be. My concern here is that there's going to be an abandonment of the Nephalem ascension story arcs. I've always been a fan of Diablo's story and I liked the idea of a rise in Nephalem coming about. I was kind of hoping to see what horrors humanity ascended to a level of demons and angels could bring about in the world. I think Zultan Kuhl was a good taste of that but I want more.

I really hope that aspect isn't abandoned, I both love the horror aspect of it and I like the idea that our characters rise to fight it. I also really liked the idea of humanity becoming powerful enough to fight off Angels and Demons and whatever else is out there.

But that's just me, and it could honestly be just be me, and I just wanted to share a concern I had. Thank you for your time.

Lobbies with custom game names are just freakin great, as they serve as a way of communicating. You can do a favor, ask for a favor, find like-minded people etc.

How likely is it we will see that kind of stuff in D4?

    Diablo 2 elusive song

    Posted: 04 Aug 2020 04:05 PM PDT

Anyone found the final soundtrack for the Diablo 2 LOD cinematic? That song always gives me goosebumps and shivers down my spine and I honestly need that epic song on Spotify. I've looked everywhere and still can't find it. I feel like it's one of the deepest mysteries of the Diablo series at this point.

    Does dual wielding Stack damage?

    Posted: 04 Aug 2020 03:21 PM PDT

I am relatively new to Diablo 3 and I have a question: The answer is probably obvious but If you have a weapon in both Hands, does the damage of the two weapons add Up or stack? For example If you have 2 weapons that do 10 damage each, is your general damage 20 or does it Not stack?

Did Blizzard forgot to clean up the Leaderboards?!

    Posted: 04 Aug 2020 10:09 AM PDT

It's 3 weeks already after they implemented the hotfix that addressed the season theme exploit. Yet, there is still a zDPS build at rank 1 on the European Barb Solo Leaderboard.

Will this clear eventually get cleaned up? Did Blizzard forgot? Don't they care?

I find this extremely discouraging for me personally trying to push as high as possible, knowing rank 1 used a "strategy" that is not available any more.

D2 Mod Maker [v0.5.0] - New Web UX

    Hello everyone,

I am posting to share the release of D2 Mod Maker v0.5.0. There are quite a few updates in this version including bug fixes, reworks, new features, and a new web user interface! Again, I would like to thank /u/Deadlock39 for all that he's contributed.

    D2 Mod Maker v0.5.0

    D2 Mod Maker v0.5.0 - Web UX

    • Randomization has been reworked. Old seeds are invalidated.
    • Refactors IsBalanced mode
      • Now item properties are selected from items up to 10 levels above
      • This replaces the 0-30, 31-60, and 61+ buckets
    • Fixes bugs with Runeword property parsing and randomizing
      • Runeword props were previously always added to the 0-30 bucket, allowing them on all items regardles of runeword levels
      • Runewords were previously assigned props only from the 0-30 bucket.
      • Runeword properties and randomization are now assigned by the level requirement of their highest rune.
    • Adds a new randomization option: BalancedPropCount
      • This option enables picking the prop count for items from the counts on vanilla items
      • The count is pulled from items up to 10 levels above the item being randomized
      • The MinProps and MaxProps settings will be ignored if this is enabled
    • Adds a new randomization option: AllowDuplicateProps
      • If this property is false (default), the same property type will not be added to an item twice (e.g. two instances of resist all)
    • Prevents two auras from being placed on the same item. This is bugged in the game, and one aura would not work.
    • Adds an option to specify the directory to read source Diablo 2 text files from instead of using the built-in 1.13c data.
    • Adds an option to specify the output directory.

    New person needs help

    Posted: 04 Aug 2020 11:03 AM PDT

Hi. I've had Diablo 3 since about 2013 and I never really got into the meta portion of thr endgame content because I didn't know what to do. Recently I started playing again on the Xbox one with modded equipment and watching a youtuber explain how to gear for end game progression. I took a look at my characters on the pc version and realized they're severely out of date and lagging behind. I apologize if I'm breaking the rules asking something like this but is there a subreddit where I can ask to join a clan or community of people that would be willing to help me out? I would like to actually play the game than one shot 150s with modded gear that's all over the place.

Is Diablo 3 worth it in 2020? Tips for newbie?

    Posted: 04 Aug 2020 12:57 AM PDT

I've never played a diablo game for whatever reason and D3 looks really fun. Should I play the first 2 before 3? Is there anything I need to know? Should I just wait until 4? Is the game dead?

    Thanks for any input!
