D4 System Design: Value for Common (White) Items

    Posted: 21 Dec 2019 01:57 PM PST

I've recently watched a video linked here about a great chat between MrLlamaSC and Noxious. They have some great insights about various subjects and really manage to put into words a lot of things I could only feel without explaining.

One point they touch on but don't suggest solutions for is the value or use of common white items. This is a very important subject to me, as I think one of the greatest problems D3 has was making all drops except legendaries feel like crafting materials with extra steps. You didn't really care what you were picking up - it might as well be just solid colors instead of items names.

Rares were already given a place in the end game (in a very cool way in my opinion). Magic items are relatively easy to adapt to viability in various ways, the best idea I heard so far was something similar to D2 where magic items have few affixes, but they can roll very high so it's a potential tradeoff that can be useful for certain builds (and to be completely honest, i wouldn't cry if magic items were only viable while leveling). Common items on the other hand are a bit trickier.

In D2 common items were viable through rune words. I think rune words as they existed in D2 had their share of downsides and I'm actually happy for a reinterpretation of that system. What I liked about them is two things: Runes dropped regardless of magic find (which is a talk for a different thread) and they made common items meaningful. Not only that they were meaningful - it was important which item it was. So unlike D3 crafting where technically speaking common items have a place, with D2 runewords it mattered what item it was. So items got identity rather than distinctness only by color. You had to look at which common items dropped because a white monarch for example, was as valuable as some unique (legendary) items.

I think a good place to add this is in crafting. Just not as a material. They already mentioned that they plan for a deeper crafting system. I think something really cool could be that recipes require a common base item to augment. So for example a certain recipe might create a fancy sword - then some builds might search for a faster sword while others for a slower harder hitting one. Either way the base item has some effect on the resulting item and thus the item type (and ideally subtype) have meaning.

What do you guys think, what could be a neat way to make common items meaningful in a way that makes you remember individual item subtype names and be interested in the common items that drop for you?

    D4 Slow paced

    Posted: 21 Dec 2019 05:45 PM PST

D3 was my first diablo game, and the first isometric ARPG game I tried. It was fun if i wanted to turn off my mind.

I want a slow paced combat in D4. Where I observe the danger is coming from and react to it accordingly, with an attack, skill ,dash or something. I prefer studying the animation of the enemy.

ARPGs like diablo these days have been the same, speed running ultimate gear all that, its cool but the market is full of it.

thats it lets here your thoughts ..

Blizzard, please don't lock cool looking armor behind microtransactions.

    Posted: 21 Dec 2019 06:33 PM PST

If this issue has already been clarified, please let me know!

Ever since Blizzard said they were gonna have cosmetic microtransactions, it automatically reminded me of PoE, where you can't get ANY cool looking armor from the game itself, but instead it's behind a paywall.

That's one thing Diablo 3 did right. You earned this cool looking gear! I sincerely hope we don't have a PoE type of deal incoming.

    About Diablo 4 Druid

    Posted: 21 Dec 2019 09:32 PM PST

I admit I am not sure whether they added this to him (really sorry if it is ingame but I did not notice!!) , but I really want a Poison Creeper or some other plant summon to be available to him, it is so cool as it is able to summon a mat and all that !! Druid is after all not just beasts and elements but other forms of nature as well.

(I heard the higher level Poison Creeper is bugged in D2 though)

EDIT: Turns out there is Vine Creeper!!I hope developers give it ability to summon a mat or something.

[ HELP! ] what could be a good viable hell druid build (PvE)??

    Posted: 21 Dec 2019 05:45 PM PST

i'm pretty good with other classes but i never had a proper druid so i finally want to make one. Tornado is cold-damage so bad in hell because cold immunities. An animal army could be ok but seems boring, already got a powerfulsummon necro. From what i could find on the internet a Fury / werewolf seems viable and similar to a zeal paladin but hard to grind for.

Any tips? perhaps a mix? did i miss something?

I really want to play Diablo but i cant because i have satellite internet, and from what I've read Diablo is only online, and the latency will be horrendous. What are some good Diablo clones i could play without internet?

    Looking for some class advice

    Posted: 21 Dec 2019 03:43 PM PST

Hey folks! Been loving the season so far! I've been playing the tempest rush monk and really enjoying it, husband and I just finished guardian for the season and he was looking to change things up. We were trying some other classes and I was wanting some advice for a good class to pair with him!

He's playing a rend barb and a heavens fury crusader, and I was wondering what you guys think would be a good pair? I'm open to any class I love them all(except for necromancer).

    Thanks in advance!

A few questions! First my buddy and I are playing first time through together for us both. He is thinking of going druid (bear summon oak sage with elemental wind armor(he read since stuff idk) )

    Posted: 21 Dec 2019 06:57 PM PST

What compliments his class for me to be? I was thinking of being a sorcerer but I wasn't sure if any melee class would be more fun, like the assisin. What are good ratio of attribute points for classes on level up? And lastly what's ladder level? Thank you for helping a noob d2 party!

How do you determine which Paragon stats to boost?

    Posted: 21 Dec 2019 12:55 PM PST

Hello. Between running bounties and clearing rifts, my Crusader has been stacking Paragon levels and crafting materials nicely. As of this typing, it's currently 186. I'm not sure when I'm going to stop. I thought that I would create a new seasonal character so he or she could benefit from the Paragon thing eventually.

With that said, I'm not 100% on how I should assign those points. On my Crusader, I've been working toward maxing out one of the attributes. For example, Maximum Wrath is 47/50, Attack Speed is also 47/50, Armor is 46/50 and Area Damage is 46/50.

Is there a right or wrong way to assign those points?

So blizzard doesn’t care at all if you bot chicken map hack in diablo 2

    Posted: 21 Dec 2019 06:07 PM PST

Wow 4 weeks into the reset and the economy is completely ruined by bots maphacking their way through the game 24/7. I've lost all enjoyment playing it now because it's all the same bullshit, the cheaters get rich and blizzard doesn't give a shit.

    Wastes Barb Enchant Question

    Posted: 21 Dec 2019 07:12 AM PST

Got some ancient legendary sabaton of the wastes. Rolls are solid with strength - vitality - all resist. I have a 15% WW roll on there - but only 576 strength. Should I keep the weak strength roll or try to get armor from the WW damage? Thoughts?

Damage Taken Reduced VS All Res?

    Posted: 21 Dec 2019 03:27 AM PST

Damage Taken Reduced VS All Res?

I just started a Rend/WW barb, and I'm really confused.

I use the Captain Crimson Set (RCR=Damage Reduction)

Should I prioritise All Res or Resource Cost Reduction?

Example: My shoulders in my build!

    My Build

I really need you guys help on this.

    //Thanks in advanced.

    For Diablo 4, PLEASE...

    Posted: 21 Dec 2019 03:05 PM PST

NO fucking doors you have to click to open, that take time to do their opening animation, and can't be teleported through/lept over/etc until the animation is 100% complete. Especially the ruins of Corvus spirit doors or whatever, but also the little double sided bridges you have to open in the act 3 storerooms or act 5 bridges. You wanna talk about immersion breaking, look no further. No other Diablo-like or Diablo clone game has them, and certainly not the frequency that they are in some Diablo maps, Blizz PLS no. Just let us go fast.
