    About Hit Registry

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 09:05 PM PST

I just watched the gameplay trailer for POE 2. For the record I'm not a POE superfan or anything (I've played it for a few hours but the combat never really felt great to me) and I'm not trying to make a "make D4 exactly like POE" post but I did take careful note of a few things.

In comparison to POE, I still think without a doubt D4 has a more visceral combat. There's something about the details surrounding the animations combined with the excellent sound design that just makes it look like you're really hitting enemies.

But I also noticed that POE 2 doesn't have the annoying white flashing when enemies are hit. Instead they seem to have a consistent "hit" animation. It's very brief, but it works in the same way as an identifier of "did I hit that enemy, or which enemies did I hit".

It's far less distracting (I really can't NOT see the white flashing now), much more immersive, and based on what I've seen of D4 so far I really think that the Diablo animators would crush this. Since the game is a far way off, I really hope they consider it.

Itemization - the only question to ask

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 06:20 PM PST

Whoever is responsible for designing the items for Diablo 4 should be constantly asking themselves the below questions every time an item is completed:

'IS THIS ITEM MANDATORY TO MAKE A BUILD VIABLE?'

Mandatory = required to make a build function

If 'YES' is the common response then then itemization is going to be up the creek without a paddle and heading towards Diablo3ville.

If the answer is 'YES' the second question should be...

'IS IT THE LEGENDARY AFFIX THAT MAKES THIS ITEM MANDATORY?'

If 'YES' maybe it should be a talent or skill tree ability instead?

YES, IT IS OK TO HAVE SOME ITEMS THAT ARE REQUIRED TO ENABLE CERTAIN BUILDS. HOWEVER THEY SHOULD BE THE EXCEPTION NOT THE BLANKET RULE.

    Why......

Most people just want to be able to play the way they want and enjoy the game. Others want to chase the rarest items and farm the perfect drops....even to the point where its only a few % points more power. To make both groups happy there needs to be a balance. Making legendary affixes mandatory for builds across the board frustrates players who can't find them, this leads to Ancient which leads to Primal and before you know it we have multiple tiers of the exact same item that pleases no one. Fewer mandatory affixes means some items can be really, really hard to find and landing that perfect rare roll with max stats is something players with more time than sense can chase forever and a day. Yes, some items should be build defining because that is fun too. Diablo should not be about being handed everything on a silver platter which means carefully considering legendary affixes and how they might restrict a players ability to play the game. Where Blizzard does decide to make a legendary affix build enabling they should proceed with extreme caution and also check its not just a better version of another similar affix while they are at it.

MORE BUILD DEFINING, LESS BUILD ENABLING PLEASE BLIZZARD.....

We just need Self Found and Trade servers. Your game, your preferred play style.

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 02:56 PM PST

The trade vs non-trade war is toxic, and going to make one large group unhappy no matter how you cut it. Restricting trade in any degree ruins the point, and having open trade makes some players feel like they don't get a fair shake. It's not a complex solution and it gives both parties the game they want, their way. It's not "splitting the community" really either, because one direction or the other Blizzard is going to lose thousands of players because of whichever way they lean. At character creation simply choose to play self-found or open trade. Start your journey and enjoy whatever playstyle you prefer.

I'm sure this will be downvoted into oblivion by both sides since it's not clearly siding with either, but before you hit that downvote button, at least give a little discussion as to why you don't think it's okay for both sides to live in harmony separately.

Edit - Of all the negativity I've received so far, I've yet to get a single real reason not to allow unrestricted trade to have its own server. Those who don't agree with it simply don't want trade to exist in any capacity even if it has no impact on them. This blanket hatefulness is exactly the toxicity I've previously mentioned. It is entirely possible, and not at all unreasonable to support this option, and it literally solves every problem between the two ideals. Why do you need to argue it? Why do you need to hate the idea that people play games differently? Think about it for a while. This is not a suggestion to take anything from players who want to self find, its, in fact, to give them a haven of their own to play with likeminded individuals to their heart's content. This place is sickening.

PSA: Leave all community channels if you have stuttering/freezing during gameplay.

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 03:26 AM PST

Was having insane stutters and freezes in GRifts if the screen got too crowded with spells and enemies. Found a fix on battle.net forums. Leaving all community channels does the trick. You don't have to leave the communities, just the chat channels.

    Cheers.

    EDIT: communities, not cummunities, lmao.

What is the best variation of WW barb?

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 06:11 PM PST

I'm seeing a lot of different builds, some running the Captain Crimson set with Royal Grandeur, and some with a couple different abilities. The leaderboard seems to be a mix. What is the best variation?

    Beginner getting into the franchise

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 07:05 PM PST

I've always wanted to get into the Diablo universe but never actually played any of the games. Which game should I start with as a newbie. I really don't mind older games as I actually grew up playing the Starcraft and Warcraft RTS games. I guess I'm just wondering which game should I start with first to get the best Diablo experience.

Game is crashing every 5 minutes

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 06:05 PM PST

Since today, the game is constantly crashing every 5 minutes. I have a hard time doing 2 rifts in a row before the game crashes... Anyone else? I've tried repairing the game, starting in admin/compatibility mode, clearing cache, reinstalling D3... Nothing seems to change the situation...

Which Diablo Edition should I buy?

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 12:03 PM PST

    Hello guys,

I'm currently thinking about buying the game. I haven't played the game before, so I don't know which edition to buy.
To try it out should I buy the standard edition or the reaper of souls edition or is it best to buy the whole bundle?

    Thanks in advance!

    Won Khim Lau Internal Cooldown?

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 05:39 PM PST

This is my first season rolling a monk and I'm running Tempest Rush with Won Khim Lau. Is there some kind of internal cooldown on its effect? I ask because I'll hit with TR and it'll vacuum a few people and then just... not do anything and then seem to only do it sporadically. Or is there something else I don't know about?

Just an idea of skill point acquisition

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 01:22 PM PST

I'm not a fan of the way every skill can be maxed out eventually, since it makes every character of the same class identical (or at least potentially so).

However, it wouldn't be so bad if this was possible but really challenging to do.

I haven't curated this idea, and I'm just writing it out as I'm thinking it basically, but what if extra skill points were not found as scrolls (or whatever they propose at the moment), but in achievements such as difficult dungeons or certain quests etc. make some of them really difficult end game challenges, or some really difficult ones could reward more than one point?

Integrating it in the world gives each area more meaning, instead of just going from one place to another grinding levels until you are max level, "hoping" to find more skill points by pure rng.

Please help me think this through, you guys are usually pretty good at that.

(Diablo 1) Who was the cloaked storyteller?

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 05:54 AM PST

So there is this guy at the end in a cloak that sounds like Aldaris and Colonel from MGS but who is he? Why does he know so much about the hero and the world? Why is he shrouded in mystery?

Appearently he even has a tome in the Arcane Sanctuary in Diablo 2 where he tells more lore.

I have replayed Diablo 1 and 2 in the last weeks and i played Diablo 3 on day 1 and i have read and listened to lore videos over the years but no one mentioned this guy i think...

    Who is he?
