Item on Ground Toggle On/Off has been added to D2R!

    Posted: 13 Jul 2021 02:28 PM PDT

I made a post that received a decent amount of upvote concerning this a while ago

so … Id like to give a special thanks to everyone who disagreed , opposed it and called me some names for wanting a « game for babies » despite me being a huge D2 fan and also a 33 years old dad.

    Thanks for being wrong guys

Also fuck yeah D2R will be awesome!

    Inventory Item Graphics Improved <3

    Posted: 13 Jul 2021 03:28 PM PDT

    From the recent update: https://news.blizzard.com/en-us/diablo2/23695734/technical-alpha-learnings
Inventory images improved! They also did some upscaling on the LoD inv images

    +1 VV 👏
(related post about upscaling the old LoD inv pixel art

    https://www.reddit.com/r/Diablo/comments/n5kylh/legacy_gear_ported_to_d2r_hd/ )

    Rows: LoD, Alpha, Beta

🤔 a toggle for the old school inv graphics would be pretty sweet too for my boomer preference

Guys, it is a remaster, why do we need to LIMIT stash tabs?

    Posted: 13 Jul 2021 01:20 PM PDT

After 20 years we still cant have infinite amount of stash tabs? I just read the tech alpha update.. I mean who is offended by having MORE stash space?

4 TABS TOTAL? Are you kidding me?

Diablo IV – Itemisation - Why less is often more

    Posted: 13 Jul 2021 11:06 AM PDT

Let me preface this by saying I think Diablo 3 turned out to be a very enjoyable game, but I'd just like to highlight one aspect the developers got completely wrong with the itemisation (in my opinion of course).

But before I discuss where I thought Diablo 3 went wrong, I'd like to share a facet of what I think made Diablo 2 such a captivating item system by looking at some of the different types of attributes available on items.

The 5 Pillars of D2 Stats:

Infinitely Scaling Stats – These are attributes such as vitality, +mana, +skills, +Elemental damage. Stats like these were the bread and butter of items, some attributes were more desirable than others. This type of stat was the cornerstone that Diablo 3 was built on, the goal of most attributes was just to add as many as possible, a bigger number meant a better item. It made Diablo 3 intuitive but not very interesting.

Hard Cap Stats – These are attributes such as +all resist, +chance to block, crushing blow. For the most part these are all incredibly impactful affixes that completely lose usefulness once their limit is reached for example seeking out items with a large amount of all resist until a character has achieved 75% in Hell difficulty. This led to these attributes being incredibly impactful and sometimes essential on items but once the hard limit was reached a player could focus their attention elsewhere.

Soft Cap Stats – Attributes like magic find, faster hit recovery, faster cast rate, increased attack speed. These are essential stats for constructing a successful character, however their effectiveness wane as more of the stat is collected. This gives the player a real decision to make as to pursue these diminishing returns further will sacrifice other areas of the character.

One Hit Wonder Stats – Attributes such as cannot be frozen, ignores target defence, +Teleport. These effects require just one item on your character to achieve and can make or break how a player sees an item. A good example is the Raven Frost Ring which is often used over other very good options for its "cannot be frozen" characteristic. This is an issue with having too many item slots as it makes these types of effects too easy to collect on a character and too hard to balance.

'Garbage' Stats – Attributes like +light radius, replenish life, +maximum stamina, these less desirable effects appear all over the place and balance out some end game unique items with early game rare items, it was not uncommon to pick up a rare ring with a good roll and use it for 50 levels, this feeling is missing from Diablo 3 where the large difference in power from early levels to later levels makes looting items whilst progressing through the game far less exciting.

    Less Is More

Diablo 2 hit a sweet spot with the inventory system having 10 item slots each new item found felt like it had a massive impact on your overall character, whereas Diablo 3 had 13 item slots with 3 extra incredibly powerful legendary gem slots. It seems counter intuitive, but additional item slots reduces the complexity and leads to less impactful decisions, when there are additional item slots each new piece of gear influences your overall character less, to maintain a balanced game the impact that each individual items equipped will have on your character must be reduced to compensate - Less Item slots mean more difficult decisions.

Blizzard thought that giving Diablo 3 players more of everything was better: more text, more item slots, bigger percentages and numbers. By increasing the scales and complexity of traits offered to players, Blizzard actually reduced the amount of meaningful decisions a player had to take in customising their Character as certain tactics such as stacking critical hit chance and critical hit damage or equipping a set with +10000% damage boost became the clear best strategy and early game loot became obsolete quickly - Less scaling means the endgame is more of a journey than a destination.

Engaging character development is about striking a balance between customisability and intricacy for every benefit there should be a sacrifice to weigh up, the game should provide a system that's easy to pick up and progress in the beginning but presents increasingly tougher decisions once progress starts to slow. Diablo 2 had a lot of inconsistencies, overpowered runewords and was downright opaque sometimes when it came to items and Diablo 3 had a very innate simplicity that is very easy to pick up but was very shallow, I think the key for D4 will be to combine elements from both games. - Less best in slot items more combinations.

Wait so still NO changes to the Zon or Barb? Are we improving PC models or not?

    Posted: 13 Jul 2021 02:47 PM PDT

I read all of this stuff about "based on community feedback" and terms like "We heard you loud and clear"

What about the elephant in the room.

    1. The barb who stopped taking roids, didnt cycle off properly and estrogen kicked in giving him a dad bod, got addicted to budlight and lounging on lawn chairs.
    2. The Zon who apparently decided to smoke 2 extra packs a day for 15 years straight, went on a few sea voyages and also enjoys lounging in front of her house drinking bud lights all day talking to barb.

From what I remember, the team responded by saying they took this criticism seriously and are working on it. Can we put Barb on a training program and get him back in the gym? Can we send the Zon to the salon?

D3 on PS4 - joined an online game, realized I have no clue about loot etiquette

    Posted: 13 Jul 2021 07:26 PM PDT

I jumped into a random game - there was one guy about my level, and two with 1300+ paragon levels. They spawned a GR150, and I couldn't even keep up with them lol

One of the guys was dropping loot in town - I'm guessing it was "take this if you want it", but I didn't have a way to ask, and didn't want to be a leech. He did the same at Urshi, when I got there, there was a pile of stuff that I picked up without thinking about it.

Thoughts welcome - I went from paragon 820 to 850 in one rift, which was cool. I hopped back out since I don't know them and didn't want to just absorb xp. 😕

    Invert Personal and Shared Stash

    Posted: 13 Jul 2021 11:49 AM PDT

With announcement of the current stash decision, D2R devs said they've chosen 1 personal stash tab with 3 shared stash tabs.

This means that additional characters are still going to act as mules for many players. With mules being the norm for many players the ratio of personal and shared tabs is the opposite of what it should be for muling. By having 1 personal stash tab more mules will have to be made than if there were 3 personal tabs.

I would personally prefer less mules that can carry more rather than more mules that carry less.

    D2R Feedback: Allow Private Servers

    Posted: 13 Jul 2021 04:15 PM PDT

Blizzard said they are open to mods in D2R, which is a fantastic design. One of the main reasons many, including myself, still play D2 is for the private modding servers such as Path of Diablo, ProjectDiablo2, and Median just to name just a few. Modding has been a huge part of why this game still flourishes. While D2R is shaping up to be a truly legendary remake, from a lot of feedback I've seen, I know a lot of people would rather continue to play the original d2 with mods than go back to the hammerdin/frozen orb Baal farming meta that is bnet.

Yes, there a some amazing QoL features coming with D2R, but it really doesn't compare to the amount of content some of these mods add: endgame maps, skill redesigns, runeword balance, buffs/nerfs, and other major QoL features such as loot filters, stackable runes/gems, charm inventory, and the list goes on.

I don't see a downside with Blizzard allowing private servers. You will still have to buy a copy of D2R and it's not like there is any ongoing monetization model. Buy once and done. Why not allow people to play the game how they want to play it. The purists can continue to play single player or bnet and the modding community can play the way they want but with D2R graphics.

Blizzard, you've done an excellent job so far with the remake and the communication with the community has also been a breath of fresh air. Seeking feedback and implementing changes based on that feedback. Please allow private servers to exist in D2R so the amazing modding community can continue to create new ways to play our beloved franchise with all of what D2R has to offer. Here's to another 20 years.

    Advice on Diablo 3

It would be such an improvement to the quality of the game and the immersion of Vicarious visions completed what Blizzard North didn’t had the time to do and was forced to shortcut…. Unique monsters having a different recoloured basic model rather than having their own model

    Posted: 13 Jul 2021 11:48 AM PDT

Best example of this is the countess

    https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/diablo/images/e/eb/Countess2.jpg

This is what she looks like

And this is what she looks like in game

    https://www.almarsguides.com/AlmarsImages/Computer/Games/Diablo2/Farming/Locations/Act1/TheCountess/The%20Countess.png

Corpse fire is a good example of this, they gave him a cool unique aspect

    from

    to

But So many unique monsters with really defining names but with models that don't live up to it

    • Pindleskin

    • Treehead woodfist

It would bring so much more depth to the game if unfinished stuff was finished

Group gameplay: party minigames and challenges

    Posted: 13 Jul 2021 12:33 PM PDT

We're all super excited for D2R to come out, and most of us have played D2 to death, we know the most efficient and effective way to do almost everything Diablo related. So, in hopes of making yet-another-D2-playthrough as fun as possible, let's compile some ideas for player-driven challenges/minigames you can participate in with your group. This mostly assumes everyone starts new characters and plays together - aren't we all taking a few vacation days off for release :D ?

    ...

Money pool: everyone contributes X dollars to start, and triggers Y will cause you to add money to the pool, and event Z results in an individual winning the pool.

    • Last one to die wins the pool
    • First one to find a specific item wins the pool
    • Whoever collected the most gems (after a game, or cutoff like level, end of playtime, end of act, etc)
    • Whoever collected the most gold (same criteria)
    • First one to die adds $ to the pool

    ...

    • Item bingo: everyone puts together a BINGO sheet filled with items from a curated list (gems, uniques, potions, runes) and first one to cross off a line wins.
    • Drop gambling: everyone picks an item from a few categories they expect to drop first: first rune to drop, first gem, first unique, first set. Go until a selected item drops in that category to determine the winner.
    • Waypoint races
    • Low level duel tournaments: structured 1v1 tourney, teams, FFA
    • Mid/late game: speedrun challenges
    • Survival challenges: open the cow level, set a TP far in the corner of the map, everyone enters the cow level with no gear, and races back to the main exit/entrance portal.
    • Tombs race: split up and first one to find the correct tomb wins

    ...

    Drinking games:

    • Drink every level up
    • Finish your drink if you die
    • Drink for each rune/gem/unique picked up

    ....

Hoping to get community input to put together a variety of fun social challenges like this which will add another really fun dimension to playing the game, and perhaps add raise the stakes. If you have any new ideas, want to refine one of the rough ideas above, have run similar parties in the past, etc etc, please share! If you're interested in setting one of these up and need to find a group to play with, make a comment!

Rule of thumb on rating items

Rule of thumb on rating items

    Hi all,

I started playing Diablo 2 when I heard the news about D2R.

I was wondering if there are any website that shows items' rarity or how valueable they can be?

I picked up this one and it looks really good to me, but I would like to be able to judge it more objectively

    Thanks in advance

Hell D kill with all classes, Singleplayer using difficulty glitch

    Posted: 12 Jul 2021 10:25 PM PDT

D2R’s new assets and item models look so insanely good, especially since they now all have their own 3D model, it would be a shame to exploit it to its full potential… Cube your item with a standard of heroes to change it artwork model (aka: rng transmog

    Posted: 13 Jul 2021 02:16 PM PDT

    • Would give a value to standard of heroes

    • Standard of heroes makes sense as an ingredient since most uniques are named after heroes

    • Purely cosmetic

    • Some restrictions obviously , ie: 2h can only change into another 2h, bows and crossbows are together

    • I would be tempted to say that you can get class specific models since it's the mods that are class specific. Ie: cube a Stormshield get a Vortex shield model ( heavily depends if other class character models can equip those" ie: sorc with Arreat helm

    • Chance of rolling a certain item model is proportionally rare as rolling the item itself, ie: rolling Mang song model on your leaf runeword is much rarer than rolling Ribcracker model

    • You can roll models from normal(super common), set (common) unique(rare), quest items(super rare)(ie: Horadrim mallet for 1hander, Horadrim staff for 2hander, kalim flail for 1hander)

    • dull looking items or runeword could finally look good

    • you have to complete the hardest challenge of the game to acquire the ingredient to do the recipe

    • great Artword models would not be wasted on low/bad unique items(silk of victors)

    • For pvp, if inspect isn't added to the game, hostility would turn off those alt art to reveal the unaltered player appearance

    • this would be a really great endgame activity for people that crave good looking items

-Cube a Eth Tmaul Botd and have a chance to roll Bonesnap model

-Cube a Shako and have a chance to roll a Ondall helm model on it

    -Etc

It's basically extra stuff to do in endgame with no impact on the gameplay, you look better and VV's incredible artists works get out on a pedestal

Diablo 2 Resurrected or Torchlight 3

    Posted: 13 Jul 2021 01:13 PM PDT

I'm looking for a new rpg that I can play online with a friend on the ps4. I enjoyed playing Torchlight 2, Path of Exile, Grim Dawn and Diablo 3, but my friend is new to ARPG's like these. Shall we buy Diablo 2 Resurrected to introduce him to ARPG's, or buy Torchlight 3 since it is a newer more modern game?

I have heard that Diablo 2 is still pretty good but I doubt he would like an old game. Torchlight 3 doesn't have enough good reviews that I have seen so far.

I would like to see your opinion on this: Diablo 2 Resurrected vs Torchlight 3
