    Diablo I newbie

    Posted: 22 May 2020 09:32 AM PDT

I started playing diablo III when it first came out. I was tired of the WOW drama but still wanted a fun game to play. I NEVER played diablo I or II or had I even heard of them before buying III. I have finally decided to play I and it is downloading as we speak, I have no idea what to expect 🤣🤣. This should be fun.

[D3] Completed Conquests but not getting rewarded

    Posted: 22 May 2020 04:08 PM PDT

    I completed

Boss mode (Kill all bosses T10 or higher in 20 mins or less.)

    and

Curses! (Kill 350 Monsters in a cursed chest event on T10 or higher)

and was never rewarded, or given the "earned" status. I was annoyed so i redid Curses! and was at 370 when the timer ended, still not rewarded. So i moved on to Boss Mode and when i finished i still wasnt rewarded. I got annoyed so i quadruple checked im on T10 and even timed myself, Start Timer > start game > Finish successfully (so far in the 3 times i completed it i was either around 40 seconds -1:30 left on my timer. even went through each act to make sure each boss had completed mark) and still nothing.

Im solo NON hardcore if that makes any difference whatsoever. Im going for Guardian this season. is this a bug?

    GR 45 is killing me....

    Posted: 22 May 2020 10:05 AM PDT

Capping out on GR 45. Running a monk with patterns of justice gear. Vengeful mind in place of main suggested. Wondering if my gear is weak or maybe I'm just building wrong. Following the build pretty on so maybe it's ..... me? Usually play solo. Sometimes with a friend. Just feel like I should be able to push more. One good enemy blast on death hits me really hard. Any tips are appreciated. Thank you

Updated with D3 planner! Messed up on attacks placement but watching my daughter whose 3 so I'm amazed I finished it! Haha

    Most Efficient Sorc Build?

    Posted: 22 May 2020 10:48 AM PDT

Post whatever you think is the best sorc plan. Such as blizz, then respec into lighting later. This for the new ladder so it's all gonna be based on low level gear. Thanks!

[D3] Any good alternatives to Icy-Veins and DiabloFans?

    Posted: 22 May 2020 12:55 AM PDT

This season i tried out every class instead of sticking to wizard/DH and was looking for builds on icy veins. While the basic set up is there, the leaderboards/players i come across in game always have something better or some small tweak. So for a while i use Icy-veins as a baseline then use the leaderboards as a way to see some tweaks. Except when i want to do a specific build that isnt the top of the leaderboards (for example the carnevil poison dart build, UE DH) i dont see anyone using it on the leaderboards and dont have much of a reference to help improve what i have.

As for using DiabloFans, i find it to be extremely difficult to just look around at builds. for example if i click the builds tab and were to sort by Wizard > seasonal > season 20 > solo you will pull up 2-3 results. it wants more information but sometimes i dont know exactly what build im looking to do and want to see whats out there.

any good resources would be helpful

Will I lose out on a lot of what makes Diablo 3 great if I play it on a console (switch) compared to the PC?

    Posted: 22 May 2020 08:13 AM PDT

So I have never played diablo and am interested in purchasing it. I'm thinking of either buying it on the PC or on the switch. I'm not trying to make this into a pc vs console war thread, I have both consoles and a PC and both have their merits. I'd ideally get it on the switch due to couch co-op(likely won't be used though), can play it offline, and can play it portably. I have read up on this port and supposedly it is great, so I'm not too worried about performance and peak graphical performance isn't a huge deal either (I know the switch will look a bit worse). My main worries are:

1)Is it too complex to effectively be played on a console well? Are there too many spells, actions, things to do, targeting problems, etc in battle that just can't be done well on a console and makes it more tedious than fun? For example, WoW could never be played on a console, there is just too damn much going on and I sometimes felt I didn't even have enough key binds on a computer at times when I played it. Now I don't think it would be remotely close to that situation, but it still worries me that it wouldn't feel completely smooth mid fight.

    2) Is the trading/finding groups/online components in general component significantly worse than the PC version? Will I miss out on a lot of these types of aspects if I play on the switch? Now I know the game has been out for a while on the PC so I'm sure the player numbers have gone down substantially and since the switch version is still relatively new the player numbers may still be high which may make it a little more even. It still worries me, and is my main worry, that I'll be losing out soon actual content in the game if I play on the switch. I know the PC version will be better, but for the most part will I not be losing out on much on the switch in these finding groups/trading/etc types of things other than fairly minor things?

None of this would be an issue if I could sync up both PC and Switch together, I would just buy both. This would be ideal because I would be able to use the switch when I'm on the go or to play couch co op and when I was home I would just use my pc. Why more games don't do sync this way (mainly with the switch) I don't understand they would easily get 2 purchases of the game from a lot of people, but I digress.

I was also looking into Path of Exile and the consensus seems to pretty much be don't play it on xbox, just pc because there is a lot of negatives to playing on a console whereas there seems to be a decent amount of praise towards diablo 3 on the switch.

Now I know that Diablo 3 on the PC will technically be the best experience, however, if it is essentially just as fun and I don't actually miss out on anything playing on the switch I would love the extra versatility. Overall, what are your thoughts on this especially with my main concerns? Thanks.

[PC][Seasonal][Softcore] Anyone able to help with Conquests?

    Posted: 21 May 2020 11:38 PM PDT

Edit: Got em both! Thanks for your help!

Anyone able to assist me in getting 2 conquests? Never got this far in the season before, but only need 2 conquests to complete the full season journey. I'm a barb and my highest GR is 103. The easiest conquests I'm told are the 20 min boss one and the 350 kill cursed chest one, but both seem to need a group for and no one I know plays anymore. Around this weekend if you are available, thanks in advance either way. Can PM battletag.

Since there is Minecraft Dungeons now...

    Posted: 22 May 2020 10:31 AM PDT

can we make Diablo IV a more in depth game please? Looks like the supercasuals are catered for with this cute game and quite honestly Mojang hasn't done a bad job.

Would love to see Blizzard focus on the more in depth players - there are still more than enough of those. It's obviously difficult to exactly say who qualifies as such, but look at it this way: if you feel Minecraft Dungeons is not enough in terms of items, character progression, etc. than you're in.

People keep saying that Blizzard wants the casual money, and I'm pretty afraid that's true, however games like PoE proof that there is actually a lot of money in the not so casual gamer.

And please note this is not against Minecraft - I'm sure the game is great fun and offers a lot, it has its place.

pleeeeeeeaaaaase, don't fuck Diablo IV up Blizzard!

Pros and Cons of Diablo II and Diablo III and hopes for Diablo IV

    Posted: 22 May 2020 10:48 AM PDT

What are your pros and cons of Diablo II and Diablo III and what are your hopes for Diablo IV?

    Diablo II Pros

    • Groundbreaking game. Best graphics for an RPG at the time.
    • Better captured RPG fantasies — Sorcerer has more compelling abilities than Wizard for example.
    • Putting points in skills and attributes provides fun choices during level up.

    Diablo II Cons

    • Stamina.
    • Spending points on attributes didn't provide meaningful choices
    • The game is too easy and not challenging until suddenly you may not be able to progress at all because you lack the resistances/damage types
    • The endgame content is repetitive
    • Character builds are fuzzy and amorphous. You can use every spell in your spell book, but almost no one does that, and doing so is very clunky.
    • Inventory tetris is tedious and makes no sense. I can carry way more than is realistic, and the proportions of things are nonsense.
    • Spamming potions dominates gameplay.
    • Inventory space gets taken up by potions and charms, making it difficult to have room to pick up loot. Tension can be a good thing for games, but for me personally, I found this tension to be a detractor.
    • Abilities are poorly balanced. Putting points is some abilities will make your character straight up non-viable. Not every build should be optimal, but abilities shouldn't brick your character.
    • High levels don't introduce any new gameplay.

    Diablo III Pros

    • Choosing six of your class abilities creates high impact character builds.
    • Campaign is punchy and fun.
    • Dialogue between NPCs is entertaining.
    • Follower abilities are cool.
    • Crafting/enchanting is fun.
    • Combat is intuitive, dynamic, fluid and visceral.
    • Legendary items change how the game plays.
    • Gold sinks are meaningful.
    • Treasure Goblins.
    • Kenai's Cube is fun and makes finding legendaries you won't actually wear interesting.
    • Seasons keep the game fresh
    • Greater Rifts add a challenge to the game
    • Leaderboards
    • Less cheating
    • Adventure Mode keeps you in the action, while providing a natural and rewarding way to get different content from the game.
    • There's way more content in Diablo III, especially the different events that can happen throughout the game.
    • Massacre bonuses mean that you care about "trash" mobs.
    • Every level gives you access to a new ability and changes gameplay.

    Diablo III Cons

    • The "runes" for skills aren't runes, they're just more skill choices. I think Diablo III would be so much better if they'd stuck with the design of *finding* runes as drops, and slotting them into your skills. That would have introduced variety to the leveling experience and made it feel less like your journey didn't matter at all aside from amassing levels.
    • Paragon Levels are garbage. Just getting more and more powerful the more you play is incredibly linear and boring and transparently a treadmill. Some form of Paragon could be interesting in which you make additional spec choices. As long as the game is introducing you to a new system that adds depth, which D3 paragon does not.
    • Similarly, choosing difficulties is dumb (Normal or Hard would be fine as a genuine toggle for, I suck at this game, vs I don't). You grow in power, outgrowing your current difficulty, and so you have to manually increase the difficulty. Instead, there should be content that you genuinely can't defeat until you're powerful enough. Now, this is tricky because you have to be able to complete the story without reaching that power level, so I think that content has to be added specifically as endgame content rather than as part of the campaign.
    • Greater Rifts make no sense. The hardest content in the world is a fever-dream form of training? Dumb.
    • Greater Rifts are too similar. It's challenging to try to complete a rift fast enough, but there are other things the game could challenge us with than speed. For example there could be some greater rifts that test our ability to use good positioning to avoid damage instead of testing speed only.
    • Non-elite monsters are trash, and you want to just skip them to find Elite monsters (unless you're using massacre bonuses to gain levels/paragon). Trivializing monsters is never a good thing.
    • The whole "the environment interacts with the monsters" thing turned out to not be as cool as it looked. Dropping a chandelier on monsters is fine, but having the fastest way to level be going to the area with a bunch of giant meat cleavers is dumb (and an unintended consequence of something that turned out not to be of any real value to the game).

    Hopes for Diablo IV

    • Better capture RPG fantasies like Diablo II. Elemental Sorcerer. Shapeshifting Druid. Barbarian will feel the same, but the Diablo III Barbarian is awesome.
    • Rewarding leveling journey that feels unique to the player. Everything could have gone differently with the same class by making different choices.
    • Building on Adventure Mode, after the campaign you go to the open world where there are tons of new quests to go on. Just doing each quest once might take significant time. Like Adventure Mode, this keeps the endgame content variety high, but unlike adventure mode, it can be more immersive than teleporting around.
    • Hoping they keep Paragon Levels finite and introduce a new system that adds depth to character building.
    • Hoping they add endgame content that can't be done by a max-level character without enough additional power and skill.
    • Hoping they keep the pacing of the game slower in every way. I'd like to see it take longer to get to level 40 than it does to get to level 70 in Diablo 3. I'd like to see items drop less frequently. I'd like to see non-elite monsters be more difficult to kill. I'd like to see the paragon leveling system be slower (not faster) than the regular leveling system. I'd like to see every thing just slow down for Diablo IV compared to Diablo III.

Edit: I made some edits based on persuasive comments.
