Help with Plugy mod for Diablo 2 Posted: 24 Dec 2019 02:50 PM PST I posted on r/diablo2 already, but this sub seems much more active, and I am probably more likely to find help here. I first used Plugy back in 2017. I didn't have any problems with it back then. However, I have, recently, felt the itch to once again play Diablo 2. I have already installed the game with patch 1.12a, and I have D2SE with Plugy installed. When I try to launch the game, I get an error message, telling me to install the correct coreplugins. Any help in resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Plot Hole: Angels Entrance to the Sin War Posted: 24 Dec 2019 03:56 PM PST In the Book of Cain, Deckard explains that demons first entered and learned of Sanctuary through the summoning rituals of the Viz'Jerei. The Demonic Triune religion is formed, Inarius forms his counter religion, the Cathedral of Light, which eventually led to the entrance of angels into Sanctuary to defeat the demons (and the Nephalem threat to angels). The plot hole is: what allowed the angels to enter Sanctuary? Obviously the angels learned of Sanctuary through either Inarius seeking help or battling the legions of hell (this isn't explained either), but if angels could simply enter Sanctuary ya will, why couldn't the hells? Posted: 24 Dec 2019 02:17 AM PST I'm a bit rusty when it comes to lore, so I came to discuss about changes in story, lore, and worldbuilding. I know that there have been retcons, and it seems the story Blizzard North wanted to tell has been handed over to "Blizzard South". From what I understand, the lore has seen phases in its lifetime:
(Please correct me if I'm wrong or mention what I missed) It can't help but notice the drastic change in the vibe and atmosphere and some plot holes that were introduced in the story. The fleshing out of the lore through worldbuilding seemed to reduce the elements of mystery. The Nephalem of D2:LoD is different from the one presented by the Sin War books. The introduction of this Nephalem added a power creep in the narrative. When we have the Nephalem to look up to, the sense of hopelessness is greatly diminished. I'm not an edgy type of person, but I wish the story retained its misanthropic and depressing atmosphere. Something along the lines of humans being playthings to otherworldly powers. In this way, not only does it epitomize the horror elements of the genre, but also puts into question the philosophy of mortality and human existence. What I mentioned above didn't include the retcons of Diablo III. When the new lore books explained pretty much everything, there's not much to be curious about anymore. The new heroes are now the Nephalem. They are the Mary Sue and Gary Stu of the story. No need to work hard or struggle; just be born with powers and there's no problem you can't overcome. I don't blame the Diablo III writers for this problem because it stems back from the Sin War books. I'm sorry to say this, but when a story relies on Deus ex machina to resolve its problems, it makes the impact cheaper. Uldyssian became a literal god, then he overpowered the angels and demons. No more dynamic interplay with forces greater than humanity — the staple of psychological horror genres. Just use your powers and shove the angels and demons back into their otherworldly holes. Now to the plot holes. Back in D2:LoD, the Ancients mention that Tyrael is unable to interfere because Baal blocks his spiritual energy. So it falls to the heroes to stop him. When Baal is defeated, Tyrael concludes the Worldstone has been corrupted to the point that it must be destroyed, and so he does. The Sin War books made it so that the Worldstone has the power to empower individuals who controlled it (Inarius, humans). It also had the power to weaken beings like it did with the Nephalem's offspring, and hinder angels and demons from manifesting and staying in Sanctuary for too long. With our current lore, the Worldstone has been retconned to be the center of the angels' and demons' conflict and when one side controls it, they maintain control of it for at least a thousand years. What is the significance of Baal's corruption of the Worldstone, considering demons have done so in the past? And how about Tyrael destroying it? I'm assuming he did it to prevent demon hordes from pouring into Sanctuary, but Belial and Azmodan were able to. If it has the capability to augment and divest a being's powers at a large scale and has at least been controlled by one side for at least a thousand of year, how has it changed ownership in Pandemonium? Shouldn't it make whoever controls it, at any given time, the most powerful force? D3's lore states that whoever controls it just used it to create worlds, though said worlds eventually die. What's the point of controlling something for the gain of a dead world? I think when they explained everything and finally gave angels and demons a reason of why they fought each other (Blizzcon 2011), they inevitably backtracked on them being enigmatic and unfathomable (according to Deckard Cain). (Please correct me if there are inaccuracies) What are you're thoughts considering Diablo IV is upon us. [link] [comments] |

Thoughts on a BLOCK skill? (Not stat or passive?) Posted: 24 Dec 2019 04:04 PM PST I've been playing some random dungeon crawlers like the new Darksiders, and the hundreds on mobile, and some had a block mechanic. Now aside from the dungeon crawling of jumping over obstacles and climbing things, I think this could be pretty interesting to use in Diablo instead of just spamming your rotation of skills. It would add depth to combat alongside actual rolling/teleporting out of the way and specing in block could be cool. It would reduce damage from a cone in front of you, but depending on the kitehield/round shield/magic barrier it would cover different areas and amounts. Thoughts? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Dec 2019 06:59 PM PST So here's the stats: Gear: Weapon: Deathwish, slotted with Flawless Royal Emerald Off-Hand: Etched Sigil slotted with Flawless Royal Topaz Hands: Tal Rasha's Grasp Shoulders: Mantle of Channeling Chest: Tal Rasha's Relentless Pursuit slotted with 3 x Flawless Royal Topaz Head: Tal Rasha's Guise of Wisdom slotted with Flawless Royal Diamon Amulet: Tal Rasha's Allegiance Bracers: Reapers Wraps Ring 1: Litany of the Undaunted Ring 2: Restraint Boots: Blackthorne's Spurs Pants: Tal Rasha's Stride slotted with 2 x Flawless Royal Topaz Belt: Tal Rasha's Brace Jewelry gems: Bane of the Trapped Lvl 35, Iceblink level 35, Pain Enhancer level 15 Paragon 354 with investment at these levels: Core: Intelligence 39 Movement Speed 50 Offense; Critical Hit Chance: 39 Critical Hit Damage: 50 Defense: Life: 38 Armor: 50 Utility: Area Damage: 38 Life Per Hit: 50 I blew through Season Journeys I through IV and Slayer level with no issues gearing up. Now though, I'm completely stuck in Champion and can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Any Rift, empowered or not, kills me instantly with one hit from any ranges attack. Fire, spears, anything one hits me. I have tried multiple solutions with different companions, but they too are being destroyed. I've lowered difficulty to Torment III and it is still one shotting me. At Champion, a ton of the requirements are Torment X, and I can't make it through any rifts most even VII or VIII let alone X. I have never pushed through a season before and have taken time to read a ton on Icy Veins. I know I don't have all the gear for this build, and I'm trying but I can't find the boots or rings through any means. It's very frustrating. I understand there's a grind, but even in grinding I've had to lower the Torment Level to do rifts. I can do bounty's all day long in Torment VII and VIII but at Torment IX and higher they eat my lunch. Am I wrong in thinking I should be doing better and not being one shot? What suggestions would you have if this was your character? Thanks in advance for every idea you can throw at me. Apart from gambling with Kadala to get the missing gear pieces, and doing bounties to try and find them, I'm lost how to progress and feel I've hit a gigantic wall. Thanks in advance. And yes, I'm a casual player on Switch and as mentioned, am playing through my first season, and while not a pro, I'm trying to research everything I can and it just ain't working. Thanks!
