    Ears!

    Posted: 20 Feb 2021 05:37 PM PST

Might be shocking to some of you, but here's a different perspective; you don't have to hate D4 to elevate D2/D2R.

    Posted: 20 Feb 2021 05:17 AM PST

So many comments about how D4 is ruining your life like having Rogue shoot arrows by leaning five degrees too much or how D4 Santuary is too bright. So unrealistic. I know, living in your cave is dark and gloomy, but outside world also has some sunshine once in a while. Seriously, some comments are so detached from reality, it's amazing.

D2 is something a lot of us hold very dear. We grew up with it. D2R is looking great also, you can relive some of those childhood memories. New generations get to experience that as well. But saying D4 is the same as D3 or it will never be great like D2 isn't contributing to anything.

D4 is shaping to be the Diablo game I always wanted. Open world, the potential of exploring whole Sanctuary, smooth gameplay. The level of detail and passion developers are putting into it staggering. They deserve to bring their vision to reality. They are listening to our feedback (things like flashing on hit, etc). D4 is not gonna be D2; it doesn't have to. Does it have a potential to be great? Absolutely.

Will D4 be perfect? No. Not a single aspect of your world ever is, so saying D4 is shit just because you dont like some minute thing is sad. Just shitting on something isn't bringing anything of value to the discussion. Try to free yourself from being cynical about everything and look for things that are good or how to improve things that are bad. It just might improve your life.

Guys! We are getting D2:R THIS year and D4 in the upcoming 2/3 years!!

    Posted: 20 Feb 2021 12:07 PM PST

Why so much negativity in the comments? Like... seriously I get "no preorders" and "limit your hype" but holy cow!
While waiting for D4 that is probably coming out 2022 at earliest D2:R is going to make this wait soooo much better! And it's (probably) coming out this freakin year!!

I donno. Maybe I'm too old and I'd rather be hyped than grumpy so well... Yeah, I'm exited as hell.
Two PC Diablo games are coming. F**k yeah!

I don’t Want a 1:1 Remaster; I want a Remaster that actually fixes the left over problems that Blizzard North never addressed.

    Posted: 20 Feb 2021 12:30 PM PST

So I'm going to get this out of the way first because like all gaming communities no one listens unless you post some dumb credentials: I've been playing Diablo 2 since 2002 and have been using it as a huge inspiration for what I do as an artist.

However unlike the majority of fans of the franchise I don't live with rose tinted glasses when it comes to things that I love. Most people I see are concerned with graphics, how Blizzard will sell this or other minutiae details. I am however concerned with a myriad of gameplay decisions that were never fixed or addressed, mainly skill balance and hell difficulty bullcrap.

As we all silently know, Diablo 2 doesn't offer actually skill choice variance once you get into Hell difficulty. When was the last time you played a Sorceress who focuses on Glacial Spike? When was the last time you saw a Druid focused on Fire skills? Or a Paladin focused on Fist of the Heavens? Well I can tell you don't remember because those builds failed miserably in Hell Difficulty due to it's backwards and lazy solution for "difficulty".

Essentially what I am hoping in this remake is not just a 1 to 1 remake, but an actual improvement on what we already dealt with. Make Immunities cap at 100 resist, not random arbitrary values that cannot be broken unless it's lightning resistance. Remove global cool downs on the vast majority of skills so we can actually use them efficiently (looking at you Molten Boulder). Buff the damage output on more underused skills so, while not better than our favorite meta skills, can actually be fun in using them. Improve balance on unused Runewords so were not forced into the same meta equipment race like we have been for the past 15 years.

I won't consider this a reinvigoration of the franchise if I log into Battlenet a week after release and see the same fifty thousand players playing the same hammerdin builds again. If I see the same build class bullcrap again, then I'd considered this remaster and utter failure. I really don't want to wait for modders to fix gameplay problems made by a studio 20 years ago.

Hopefully this doesn't come off as a negative post for like Vicarious Visions. It's just really in the end of the day a reminder of bigger problems when it comes to Diablo 2 core design that I really wished they were finally fixed.

    Posted: 20 Feb 2021 02:26 AM PST

Blizzard has announced a Diablo 2 remaster, where the only changes are visual upgrades, bug fixes and QOL improvements, with added features like cross progression and console/controller support, and an upgraded anti bot/duper technology, and somehow there are people still unhappy? What is wrong with you people?

Diablo 4 Dev Interview: The D4 devs did a Q&A with some members of the ANZ community. Some interesting questions were answered!

    Posted: 20 Feb 2021 04:44 PM PST

The Diablo 4 devs (Joe Shely and John Mueller) did an interview with some members of the ANZ community. They couldn't record the interview, but there's some transcripts. Quin69 made a YT video going through questions and answers which you can find here as he asked quite a few of the questions.

For those who'd rather not watch, I've summarised the questions and answers below:

    Q. (Quin) What happens if you capture a camp and you group with someone who has not captured that camp.

    A. (Joe) We look at the party leaders state, and treat that as the authority for what you see. If I capture a camp and you join my party, you will see my version of the camp. If you invite me to your party, I can help you progress your camp.

    Q. (Quin) does that mean you can use other peoples completed states to unlock waypoints?

    A. (Joe) Camp progression is personal. You cannot unlock camps that way.

    Q. (Leo) Can players select their gender?

    A. (John) Yes. For all classes in Diablo there's different body types, tattoos and customisation including gender.

    Q. (Seamus) Was there a long list of classes? Why Rogue?

    A. (Joe) There's a lot of archetypes important to the franchise. It was important to have a dexterity/finesse class.

    Q. (Seamus) Looking at the gameplay footage, the Rogue looks like a demon hunter/assassin combination. What were you trying to achieve with this class with such a range of skills?

    A. (Joe) When they looked at making a Rogue, we knew people have different ideas of a dexterous/finesse class. We wanted to have a class that had access to a variety of tools such that anyone who wanted to play a Rogue had a playstyle they felt at home with.

    Q. (Quin) If you disconnect in D3, your character stays logged in for 10 seconds and you die. In PoE, you can logout but this removes a sense of pressure/excitement. Is there some new technology in these modern times for D4 to give us an innovative way to deal with this?

    A. (Joe) This is a challenging problem from an engineering point of view. We don't want to solve it by making HC not matter. There's an expectation of what Hardcore means. In D4 we have a consumable that is rare and limited and if you are in a dangerous situation you can use the item to escape, the scroll of escape.

    Q. (Quin) Are these farmable, usable indefinitely?

    A. (Joe) You're not going to have a lot of these. We don't want to obviate the danger of hardcore. You asked about disconnects. If you DC in a dungeon and you have a scroll, you will automatically use it. Where you are teleported is hard to say. You have no control to where you are teleported.

    Q. (Quin) So when you log in, you'll appear in a different zone/area?

    A. (Joe) Yes, with no scroll you would otherwise be killed.

    Q. (Ash) Are the cinematics shown today an example of how story telling will be told in D4?

    A. (John) Rogue trailer was in engine, we have the capability to do these things. I don't want to set expectations just yet Story telling will be told in multiple ways.

    Q. (seamus) Will they use the ingame camera technology to have up close and personal moments, cinematic effects in combat

    A. (Joe) Something that looks good to an observer doesn't necessarily feel good to play. Don't want to ruin pace of the game.

    Q. (Quin) In D3 if you're trying to be competitive you're forced to play in a group. Will this be the case in D4? Have you considered solo self found?

    A. (Joe) We have considered it (SSF). We have announced hardcore, seasons. The reason we have hardcore is that we have a passionate fanbase who wants to see. We also know people are exicted about SSF, we are looking and considering the implications. We don't have anything to announce on SSF today.

As for groups: we do not want it to feel mandatory to be in a group. We understand that if its not mandatory but its dramatically more efficient then it will feel mandatory to be competitive. There are logistics involved in being in a group, additional effort. To some extent, we want to make sure there are benefits to being in a group but it should not feel mandatory

    Q. (Quin) Is group synergy enough of a bonus of being in a group? Things like chill stack quicker etc. Or do you want an artificial bonus eg bonus xp.

    A. (Joe) We don't want it to be "group for this bonus".

    A. (John) I've been playing in a group, and group synergy is a benefit. In some cases, you may have more fun. These are the reasons you play in a group.

    A. (Joe) You can chill/freeze sufficiently as a solo player though

    Q. (Quin) I'm just worried group play will be too good. That solo players cannot compete.

    A. (Joe) We want to be careful that doesn't happen.

    Q. (Leo) Will D4 come to switch/next gen consoles?

    A. (Joe) D4 will come to PC/Xbox one/PS4, we dont have any other announcements at this time

    Q. (Quin) Keybinds in D3 - you couldn't have force move on left click. Can we customise keybinds in D4?

    A. (Joe) D4 has more options for configuring your character than D3. You can play with a controller on PC. You can rebind movement from left click, you have force move/stand still you can bind. You set them up as your see fit. Not only are there players who just want different keybinds, we want it to be accessible to as many people as possible.

    Q. (Quin) Will there be leaderboards to recognise high end solo gameplay?

    A. (Joe) no announcements on leaderboards.

    Q. (Quin) Will there be mid season balance patches, or will you wait for the end of a season?

    A. This is something we've talked about. We want to be careful, we have more work to do before we comment on that.

    Q. (Quin) Is there anything you can't wait for player feedback on? Anything you're on the fence about and need player feedback on?

    A. (Joe) Scroll of escape! We're building this game with the community. We want feedback on the skill system, items. Quarterly updates will continue, and we want to deal with topics in these updates that people have asked about and that require feedback.

In terms of feedback we want from today: what do you think about the Rogue? World PvP? Camps?

    Q. (Quin) I'm worried about wpvp, people grouping up and camping

    A. (Joe) The PvP areas are large, hard to camp people.

    A. (John) If someone camped one spot, they would be missing out on other progression systems. I want the PvP loot but I'm a PvE player. So I go around like a rat avoiding pvp, but its part of the world.

    Q. (Quin) So will there be exclusive PvP loot?

    A. (Joe) We're still working on details of pvp rewards. We want desirable pvp rewards. At the moment its cosmetic/transmog but we want to be careful to people dont feel that pvp is mandatory.

    Q. (Quin) Any chance of rated pvp/ranked pvp or just world pvp

    A. (Joe) nothing to announce on that yet.

Who else appreciates the subtle Diablo 1 love at Blizzcon?

    Posted: 20 Feb 2021 04:19 PM PST

Not sure if anyone else noticed, but the last 30 seconds of the D2:R trailer uses a remix of the Caves theme from D1. Not sure why they used that theme, but I loved it.

Additionally, having the Rogue come back and having her trailer revolve around collecting ears was also a treat. It was great to see this as someone who used to duel and collect ears in D1.

I think subtle nods like these are great ways to honor the original game since a faithful remaster of it wouldn't hold up as well. Small call backs are the next best thing.

    I liked everything I saw about D4

    Posted: 20 Feb 2021 04:41 AM PST

Hi everyone, I was seeing many negative comments across different social media hating on D4. It's clear that some people will never be happy and that Blizz as a company will not be able to make a product that is loved by absolute everyone.

That said, I'm aware that negative feedback can sometimes make a company change the direction of their products and try to appeal and catter to those unhappy people... so I just wanted to take out of my chest that I love EVERYTHING we've seen so far about D4, to the point I legit think Diablo as a franchise can carry Blizzard out from the PR hell they're in right now.

I love the aesthetics, I love the graphics, the classes, the customization (the talent tree looks sick af), I LOVE THE SHARED WORLD AND THE MULTIPLAYER FEATURES, which is something a lot of people complain about, I love the PvP system a lot, how you can go on a killing spree getting yourself on a minigame where everyone else will go after you and, if you survive, you get cool rewards... I loved the rogue trailer and how they teased we no longer trust in heavens nor probably hells.

I can't wait to know more about D4 and to play the hell out of it once it comes out.

Having Diablo 2 on my switch is going to be the most bad ass thing ever! I really hope more people than just me are really excited about this! The Diablo 3 port was damn near perfect.

    Edit.
I'm blown away by how many people are.planning on making at least two purchases on release. Honestly this should be a lesson to all game developers that just this simple feature sells more copies of a game!

Full set glow effect in D2R

    Posted: 20 Feb 2021 07:04 PM PST

Hopefully we get to see some videos/screenshots of the full set glow effects like Immortal Kings, Tal Rashas, etc. Even in D2 the glow effect was a big reason why I was so drawn to using a complete set even though there were stronger gearing options out there. I've got high hopes for the graphical updates so far!

Q&A Summary: D2 player collision, patch 1.14 base, no couch co-op; D4 player trading, mob highlighting toggleable; Immortal big group PvP activities and More

Lets talk about some "features" that D2 will have that will surprise new players

    Posted: 20 Feb 2021 03:03 PM PST

Super excited for this, and it looks like many others are as well. This includes people who have never played D2 before! There are definitely some things about D2 that don't exactly jive with modern games and I'm super interested to see how it plans out. I'll start with a few:

    • items do not bind to your character, EVER (are items gunna show up on ebay like back in the day?
    • Items will just drop on the group for everyone to pick up, they're don't just drop for you like D3. People vaccum up drops from bosses
    • Respeccing in D2 is pretty brutal, 1 respec per difficulty level, then at cost of mats at end game. (AKA don't misclick your skills!)
