Xmas Season in Sanctuary (Diablo 2 xmas mod)

    Posted: 23 Dec 2020 02:29 PM PST

    Hey guys,

did you know there is a Christmas mod for Diablo 2?

The mod is actually qute dated (several years old), but still a lot of fun. Every class has some new skills, there are new items, new (Christmas) music in the game and mainly - all the maps are covered with snow! I even played it a few days ago and created a video review.

The mod itself can be downloaded here.

I ran in using D2SE, if you need any help with installation, I'll gladly help.

Are you ready to collect the whole Santa's set and get into the cage?

OG Diablo fans (and fans of d2 as well) what was something iconic from the game that really reminds you of the feeling/tone of Diablo or an experience that was very memorable.

    Posted: 23 Dec 2020 08:33 AM PST

TLDR: What memories stand out for you from the original diablo game (or d2)?

I am making a Dungeons and Dragons campaign simulating the events of the first Diablo game and want to really capture the essence of those games. I think the more grounded world pre destruction of the Worldstone is very different then the post Nephelam buff and am focusing mainly on the story of Diablo 1 and making a dungeon crawl. The mediums are very different so what I am looking for is what makes Diablo FEEL like Diablo. I think the most important task here is to capture the tone of the games which is probably the highlight of the series with the story coming to a close second. I would like to use these experiences; the way something made you feel, the part of the dungeon that stands out, maybe even a specific room or area that really made a lasting mark on your psyche.

Here are some examples that stuck with me

    • Friendly NPCs: Those classic greetings from the townsfolk be it the most iconic "Stay awhile and listen" or the blacksmith or the witch welcoming you "Hey! what can I do for ya," "I sense a soul in search of answers" Those conversations really stick with you as I look back on the game.
    • The Butcher: From the first encounter with the wounded townsman, to the horrific room on the second level, to the famous words "FRESH MEAT" he blurts out as he races towards you. You cant help but feel a bit of panic(especially if you opened up that door at a low level
    • The battle with the Skeleton King: Another snip of dialogue takes over the whole battle and sets the mood "The warmth of life has entered my tomb" and plunges you into the undead level. The king towering over you with his GIANT mythril sword raising countless skeletons while you try to avoid death
    • Those classic giant rooms under the cathedral with the four pillars in the middle connected by those long pillar filled hallways
    • The darkness that populated the dungeon so that you could hear monsters grunting and howling before you actually got to see them.
    • The claustrophobic feeling the catacombs instill with their tiny corridors and winding hallways that obstruct the view of the monsters lurking around the corner

These are just a few examples. I hope to hear about what made Diablo memorable to you and hope to get some inspiration from your ideas

First time pushing GR- what to do with 10k forgotten souls?

    Posted: 23 Dec 2020 05:38 AM PST

I've got a ton of Forgotten souls and deaths breaths but almost no bounty materials. Is there anything productive I can do with these mats? Trying to avoid having to do bounties haha.

Blizzconline 2021 Class Reveal; Who Will It Be?

    Posted: 23 Dec 2020 05:21 PM PST

Looking at the poison skill plaguemaster unique helmet, I believe it's most likely one of these 5 classes in the poll. Assassin and Necromancer being the two most likely IMO. Necromancer because of a few artworks and zone reveals.

Which of these do you think is most likely? Or do you believe someone totally different will join, like the paladin?

Edit: Deleted my last poll because of a mess up on my part. Sorry

    Necromancer leveling with no pets

    Posted: 23 Dec 2020 03:24 PM PST

    Hi all.

I'm pretty new to Diablo 3 and am playing with my fiance, she's a witch doctor and I'm a necromancer. We're both at level 61 and was wonderinf if someone could recommend a build for me that would remove any necessity of pets.

It must be a build without pets and if someone can recommend a build for witch doctor with pets would be nice too.

The thing is she's ok running with pets, but my pets just clutter the screen it's hard to keep track of things for her. So ultimately I want to find a build that wouldnt rely on summoning skeletal mages, big guy or skeletal swordsmen.

    Thank you all in advance.

My Feedback on the last ITEMS update, prove me wrong...

    Posted: 23 Dec 2020 04:39 PM PST

Rares and magic items should be able to roll one to two sockets besides their nirmal 2 and 5 affixes.

Legendarys should not be able to roll sockets. Instead they should be able to roll 4 normal affixes and one legendary affix.

This way magic and rare items could compete with their bigger affix ranges and a runeword and or gems in them...

Basically you would have to balance legendary powers vs gems and runewords.

Runewords are then basicaly custom legendary affixes with trigers and effects.

This way you would have a choice to either equip Magics or Rares with a runeword that has a triger and effect. Or lets say magic or rare itembwith two rubys that give 25 life each. Or to equip a legendary with just 4 affixes and a legendary power or a Unique...

Some Uniques should have sockets, hell maybe there could be a unique glove with just 5 sockets but 50% increased effect, so you can make youre own item with triger effect rune words and pure stats from gems....

This 5 socket only could be maybe a Normal item trait. So a Normal rarity item could roll 1 to 5 sockets, this could lead to using normal rarity base items for custom runeword and gem crafting? .

Uniques should not follow a rule with 4 affixes plus a Unique affix theu should be Unique, one could have just two unique powers, or a other classes skill, or something like that....

This is from my point of view better and more interesting designe, prove me wrong!

Many seasons ago I remember running an "Exploding Chicken" build on my WD. Is such a thing still around?

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 11:49 PM PST

I don't remember the specifics of the build, but it was hilariously fast and you'd blow up packs of elites like it was nothing. Is there a build like that in the current season?

    Should Diablo 4 have a rogue-like/lite mode?

    Posted: 23 Dec 2020 09:04 AM PST

Maybe as a variation of rifts? Either you take your own character in, earning randomized buffs as you go along, or start at level 1 and find gear/skills along the way.

It could have its own 'seasons' where it'll cycle randomly through modifiers on a weekly rotation, nothing huge it would mainly be flavour, like regularity of biome+boss appearances, certain legendaries getting increased chances to drop etc.

Once the run is over, you lose all gear/XP you've attained, but maybe you can attain progression currency specific to that rogue-lite mode which can unlock permanent bonuses or optional modifiers.

The main advantage of offering this kind of mode is that it gives the game much more of a pick up and play appeal with minimal barrier of entry, you don't need to worry too much about your choices or build because it's always specific to that one run. This is I think an aspect that Diablo 4 can leverage over its competitors like PoE, because that game, while amazing, is very much an investment to just get into which can be off putting.
