    Diablo Diablo 3 Race?

    Diablo Diablo 3 Race?

    Diablo 3 Race?

    Posted: 22 Jan 2020 02:36 PM PST

So I was thinking about trying to host a Diablo 3 racing event. I think it would be something like this…

Diablo 3 Racing event to beat Torment 1 Malthael

    • New account(will provide)
    • Solo or teams of two(haven't decided yet)
    • Hardcore
    • 100% on stream
    • If you disconnect from stream when you return you must show all gear(will review video if you win)
    • No joining public games or you will be disqualified
    • No having non-racing members join your game or you will be disqualified
    • If you die you may restart with new character
    • If you do start a new character you can use stashed items from the race
    • If you use any item not acquired during race you will be disqualified
    • If you receive any external help outside of other racers you will be disqualified
    • All videos will be reviewed, any violation of these rules will result in a disqualification from current and future racesWould any of you be interested in watching something like this? If all goes well I would like to do it in different formats with different goals(like first to 70, first to T6/T16, No legendary races)

I'd just like some feedback as to if people would want to see it, change something, or if there is no interest at all.

    Gauntlet (1985)

    Posted: 22 Jan 2020 12:04 AM PST

Has anyone played the original Gauntlet (1985) game? I thought Diablo 1 (1997) was the original ARPG. But then I was pleasantly surprised to come across Gauntlet in a Midway Arcade classics package. Gauntlet has the elementary basics of what an ARPG can do, even permanent powerup potions apparently. Just no weapon upgrading etc. I'm sure most of you know the story of how David Brevik originally conceived Diablo 1 as turned based.

As an aside, I had just been watching a video of Sid Meier talking Civilization. Sid was saying how CIV was almost a real time strategy. (It would have turned out like Age of Empires.)

Interesting how two opposite directions in history still made legendary, seminal games.

And now, turn based RPGs are making a comeback like Divinity Original Sin. Though I tried getting into DOS2, I didn't enjoy it.

Diablo 4 - Some wishes for Diablo 4 from a group of friends who loved paying Diablo together.

    Posted: 22 Jan 2020 08:42 PM PST

    Hi,

~ About Us (A group of 7 friends)

So, this post is on behalf of a group of friends, we all started playing Diablo back in 1997-1998 however we only met and became friends in Diablo 2 in 2001-2002 and since then have played Diablo together.

We all played Diablo 2 up until the release of Diablo 3 of which we played on and off due to various issues with the game that meant we couldn't play how we used to...

Back in Diablo 2, we would work as a team with some of us being support builds, some of us being damage builds, we would share loot and if we could get some extra hours in we would magic find and then when everyone was back online we would see if any of our new items were upgrades.

Ever ladder reset we would all have our specific character and build that we would work on to make sure we got to a high level fast, getting good loot and trading off any loot that we didn't need for items that we did need. We would make sure our main sorceress was strong enough to teleport into the throne rooms and tp for our tankier characters to enter, then our support and weaker classes would enter.

Everything was about teamwork for us... (hold this thought for later)

    ~ 8+ Players per Game

We loved how Diablo 2 had 8 players per game which allowed all 7 of us to play in the same game together.

Unfortunately in Diablo 3 they reduced this to 4 player which was terrible for our group. We had times were only 5 of us were on which meant one either had to solo or we had to split the group which really sucked.

As I understand the reason they dropped the amount of players per game was due to FPS issues when there are 8 players casting spells, monsters everywhere... etc. For us a better way of dealing with that issue would be either to make less enemies but make them stronger or slightly reduce the visual effects when there is lots of players.

The game is way more fun when more people can play together, we would LOVE to see a return to 8 or even 10 players per game in Diablo 4

    ~ Free Trading / Trade Forum / Friend Trading/Gifting

In Diablo 2 for a group of friends being able to freely trade was one of the best parts of the game. Lets say we were playing without Steve because he was away (who was a support druid, providing us with buffs), we might find an awesome druid item which we would keep and then when he was next on we would give it to him to make our group stronger.

In Diablo 3 this was very much ruined for us, we had to be playing with them at the time of finding the item which was made twice as bad because only 4 of us could play at any one time.

If Diablo 3 had some mechanics like "Friend Trading" where by if you played x hours together you were able to freely trade it would have been ok but even then we had occasions on Diablo 2 where we would find another item like a Herald of Zakarum that none of us needed but we could go onto a forum (we all know what one) and trade the item either for forum gold or for another item. We would often do this to progress our characters through teamwork & trading.

We've seen that Blizzard have already mentioned that various items will be account bound which we do not like as it removes the community aspect of Diablo. If Blizzard wanted they could build something similar to the auction house but more in line with how a certain trade forum worked by allowing users to make trades through the website or game, offering items out but instead of doing them for a currency (forum gold) allow people to offer other items. In Diablo 2 runes were a fantastic currency as everyone could use runes and it was fine to stockpile runes as their value didn't deprecate.

    ~ Runes / Runewords

The value of runes in Diablo 2 were very high, they were a really good currency as they could be held and not lose value, they were small, they could be upgraded, they could be merged together to make powerful runewords and they could even be used in items on their own. Um rune was often used in a Shako or a Herald of Zakarum shield to provide some resistances.

The runewords often matched and exceeded the quality of uniques due to their extra bonuses and skills which is fine, because after all you have to find the right socketed item & a series of runes. With high runes in Diablo 2 being so rare it was right that runewords were so powerful. Just look at how long it takes to find Jah and Ber. Of course the Ith rune is easy to find but you often still had to go out of your way to find this particular rune.

Players also had to either remember the runeword order or search for it (which is fine, although a "Codex" in game would make more sense now a days. But even then I've seen people accidently lose a high rune by socketing in the wrong order which is how it should be. Mistakes should be near permanent, just like the skill trees.

It's good to see runes making a come back in Diablo 4 but their value needs to be just has high as Diablo 2 and adding real runewords to match the power of an ancient legendary would work wonders.

    ~ Open Loot

In Diablo 2, in public games it was whoever clicked first would get the loot from the floor which was fun and of course we all missed out on some awesome items but we also got some awesome items that others didn't.

We also had the benefit of leaving certain items (even uniques) on the floor that we knew we didn't need, like a paladin shield for a sorceress for our team members to pickup.

We have all left items on the floor in Diablo 2 which others have picked up and used for themselves, either selling for gold for repairs or for their mercenaries.

In Diablo 3 myself and my group would have to spend so much time picking up items and dropping them so they could get a better item.

I'd like to see the ability to set loot to public in Diablo 4 (by default) so that anyone can pick any item up and the items are shared between the group.

    ~ Magic Find

In Diablo 2 most players had gear for magic find and gear for killing monsters, this was a good thing as some players would sacrifice a little bit of power to have slightly better magic find and it was all about a balance.

I could take a hammerdin down to mephisto and destroy him in 15 seconds, or I could put some magic find gear on and take 25 seconds (with a chance of dying) but this gamble was worth it when I had a better chance of finding better items.

In Diablo 3, we would get hundreds of legendary items, hundreds of set items but 99% of them were worthless and significantly worse than what we already had. If someone wants to run magic find to help them find better/more rare items they should be able to.

    ~ Mercenaries

In Diablo 2, it was pretty much essential to have a Mercenary as they could comfortably kill enemies, protect you from damage, heal you/provide defense/slow auras... etc and you could equip them with gear that you yourself couldn't use. They were able to be healed and it was like having a pet all the time.

The act 2 mercenaries were a little bit unbalanced and 90% of people ran them, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. There were still many disagreements over what act 2 merc was better out of defiance or cold aura.

In Diablo 3, it was a negative allowing players to change their mercenaries so easily because back in Diablo 2 if you purchased a Mercenary when you were a relatively low level and trained him up he would end up with more stats than a freshly purchased level 82 one.

It would be nice to see a mix of Diablo 2 and Diablo 3 for the Diablo 4 Mercenaries, where being loyal to your Mercenary is beneficial, you can hear your Mercenary individually and maybe make it so you have to get a full set of gear for your merc not just 4-5 items.

    ~ Spamming Potions

In Diablo 2, we all strongly felt that the potion system was perfect. Why change something that isn't broken? It took some skill and awareness to watch your life and use either a rejuv, heal or mana when the time was right.

In Diablo 3, the healing slowed the game up by adding all of these timer. Players would often back out of fights waiting for their potion countdown to run out. You also had cases where you were in the middle of a fight unable to heal, unable to find a health globe and just have to die... where as in Diablo 2 you had a belt full of potions to help you keep you alive whilst you fight off the monsters.

In Diablo 4, we'd like to see a sort of mix between Diablo 2 and Diablo 3. Restoring a belt full of potions but also having a special potion to rejuvenate with bonuses (legendary potions) and this would be find if this had a cooldown.

    ~ Conclusion...

Of course these are just our thoughts as a group, free free to disagree as not everything we want as a group will relate to what you want as a soloist or as a group because everyone plays differently.

Hopefully some of these thoughts from our group match what the majority of Diablo 2 players think.

    Thanks for reading :)

How come you can hack your seasonal character on the switch, but not on the pc?

    Posted: 22 Jan 2020 07:50 PM PST

How is it that the seasonal leaderboards on the switch is infested with hackers, but on the pc it's safe ( at least no to the degree like on the switch)? Normally I would think that a computer gives more freedom in customizing files or programs.

Any (official?) music scores for any of the games?

    Posted: 21 Jan 2020 10:53 PM PST

I'm mostly interested in finding the orchestral work for D2:LoD but honestly any releases by Uelmen or even the D3 composer(s) would be amazing.

I really have no idea where else to look at this point.

Diablo 3 - Helping a new player questions

    Posted: 22 Jan 2020 07:00 AM PST

So my buddy convinced me to purchase this game for a third time, in this case - on the switch. I got super excited and fell into a Diablo hole, in a few days I had my seasonal set and I'm cruising on T13. He finally groups up with me and I see he's still level 30. I offered to power level him so I try to start the game at T10 but I keep getting a message saying he hasn't unlocked that difficulty yet. I could have sworn I did this on the PS4 a few years ago. Am I forgetting an important step or is it something simple like he needs to complete the campaign first?
