| Get in shape playing Diablo II in VirtualBox on Ubuntu 20.04 host Posted: 07 Jul 2021 04:56 PM PDT Installing Diablo II LOD in VirtualBox (windows 7 guest) - Install the latest version of virtualbox (6.1.22)

- Also install Virtualbox Extensions Pack if you plan on using an Xbox 360 controller and run:
sudo usermod -a -G vboxusers $USER - Logout and log back in
- Create a windows 7 virtual machine:

- Ensure under "System" settings for the VM you specify SVGA driver with 3D acceleration
- Under "Sound" choose the Alsa driver
- If you installed Extensions Pack, under "USB" settings you can add your XBox 360 controller and wireless dongle:https://youtu.be/8woMExD2a7Y?t=105
- Start the virtual machine once you've initialized/registered windows 7 install any XBox controller drivers (links change often for older controllers and OSs):
- For XBox 360 Wireless, installer should be: "Xbox360_64Eng.exe". Find it somewheres:https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/xbox/forum/all/windows-7-drivers-for-xbox360-controller/7b72a3ab-1c03-4822-856b-1ce8088e7633
- Install D2 and D2 LOD, ensuring that the installers you received are versions <= 1.13c.
- "Search around" if your installer > 1.13c
- Note: f you try to run just D2, it should work. But if you try to run D2 LOD, you will get a blank error message with a big Red X. You will also notice if you run D2VidTest (in your Diablo II install folder) it will fail to identify any available video modes. The next step will fix this.
- Temporarily install Median XL (or permanently if you like it...);

- Note: installing Median XL very conveniently automates setup steps:
- It updates your install to 1.13c (correctly - manually updating will fail on virtualbox)
- It installs Glide Wrappers
- Uninstall Median XL from the Windows 7 Control Panel (now you have vanilla LOD v1.13c)
- Now you can rerun d2vidtest and it should successfully tell you to pick glide
- Right click on your Diablo II shortcut and ensure the following is configured:
-w At the end of the shortcut target to trigger "windowed" mode. This will not benefit from the glide wrapper graphics enhancements, but it will allow you to maximize the window to get the biggest screen size. Set the windows desktop to solid black, auto-hide the windows task bar and In virtual box "view" select full screen mode to get maximum screen size.- Optionally, also add
-3dfx if you would like to use glide. This will greatly enhance the color quality and brightness, but it will run in a much smaller screen size. Theoretically this can run in fullscreen, but on virtualbox the drivers are especially limiting. - Under compatibility tab, run in "Windows XP Service Pack 3" mode, and check Run as Administrator
- Run the game! You might get an
Unhandled Exception upon starting it, but if you simply click on the game screen it will stay hidden and the game runs fine. XBox Controller Config Even with a working controller, the game requires too much dexterity (pun intended) to precisely control the mouse. Leverage Antimicro and Diablo II QoL (harmless mods) to improve this: - Install Antimicro to map your XBox controller to keyboard/mouse entry: https://sourceforge.net/projects/antimicro.mirror/
- Use the following configuration at the bottom of this post
- with my setup, the gist of it is:
- left trigger is a left mouse click
- right trigger is a right mouse click.
- left analog accelerates the mouse with equation-based sensitivity (more fluid)
- The D-pad is spell hot keys (and I tell AntiMicro to cast the spell upon switching).
- button pad controls weapon swapping, stand still, show items, and escape key.
- Pressing left analog in opens merc inventory, pressing right analog opens yours
- bumpers choose next/prev spell, right analog drinks belt potions (up,down,left,right)
- Guide button presses "windows" super button to exit out of fullscreen if needed
- The start and select buttons drink potions from your inventory (see next steps).
- What's not programmed into the controller:
- press tab at start of game on your keyboard to get mini map
- Click the toolbar manually from your controller to open character, skills, and quests
- QoL plugins below can automatically set players 8 for you and auto accept parties
- Install PlugY (11.02) for the convenience of an infinite shareable stash and to initiate other plugins: https://github.com/ChaosMarc/PlugY/releases/tag/11.02
- Install BH (1.9.9-beta) mainly to allow hotkeys for drinking potions (among many other optional QoL features) and casting TP directly from your inventory - extremely important when you are taking heavy damage to have quick access:https://github.com/BeLikeLeBron/bhconfig/releases/tag/2.6.5
- To run BH, Install microsoft visual studio 2010 C++ redistributable: "msvcp100_x86.exe"
- In your plugy.ini file, call the "BH.dll" as an additional plugin to load
- When you run the game, all BH options are selectable from inside the game, so don't worry about changing any config just yet.

- Place the files in your Diablo II and ensure plugY references the DLL file as before
Viable Builds with a controller: Any area of effect skills work okay. Some of my favorites are traps assassin, summon necromancer, corpse explosion / bone spear / bone spirit necromancer, fire wall sorceress, charged bolt sorceress (things that don't require too much accuracy). Melee characters will be challenging, but even with a barbarian whirlwind is manageable with a controller. This has only been tested for single player games. And you do get better on a controller with time. Workouts: Let's get this out of the way: A controller is inferior to mouse+keyboard, but sitting is inferior in every way to safe, low intensity workouts such as: - Leg exercises:
- Back/Abs exercises:
- 45 degree back extension
- Ab bench
- plank (on a high rise bench so you look down at the screen)
- Arms (half joking):
- Wrist weights
- Bicep curl, cable curl (with wrist straps holding small weights, so your hands are free)

| Do I need Necromancer to unlock the permanent ethereal transmogs? Posted: 07 Jul 2021 12:16 PM PDT Title. Apparently you need to collect all the ethereals to get the transmogs, and that probably includes the Necro ones, but if I don't own necro will it be possible to drop them? Now it says it's in the powers area with my skills. | I noticed on psn diablo Res says offline single player. No local coop? Posted: 07 Jul 2021 03:33 AM PDT So my question is. Is there going to be no local multiplayer in this game. And if that's the case damn. I know a lot of people here are on pc and I loved the original d2 on pc but I also enjoyed played d3 with friends and family on the couch. If d2 res doesn't have local coop like the details say on the purchase page on psn then idk if I'm even going to rush to buy it at release. The only people I want to play with don't pc game or have psn or anything atm. And I feel like that might hurt sales also.
