Playing Diablo 2 for the first time...

    Posted: 09 Dec 2019 08:25 AM PST

After countless hours poured into D3, I decided to purchase D2 on my Macbook and I have to say...It's fucking incredible! I started of using the Amazon class and am really enjoying the gameplay so far; the mechanics, music, flow and atmosphere are exquisite and actually feel really refreshing despite it being so many years old. I am sucked into this world and am surprised that a game this old can manage this level of detail. Can't imagine what this must have felt like in its heyday. Do any of you still play this game regularly?

What Class Archetype Has Not Yet Been Done in Diablo?

    Posted: 09 Dec 2019 05:40 AM PST

The witch doctor is one of the most unconventional class in Diablo and least likely to appear in any other fantasy game. It got me thinking what other class types could be incorporated into the game.

So far, no warrior that fights dirty or an alchemist-type class has ever appeared in the series (lorewise, the necromancer uses alchemy according to Diablo II NPCs). It's also unlikely for gun wielders as it doesn't fit with the current setting.

Taking the Mage Clans into account, the Ennead Clan (of which Zoltun Kulle was a belonged) dabbled in matter enchantment and transmutation, the Ammuit Clan channeled magic to conjure illusions and warp reality, and the old Vizjerei Clan practiced demonology. These are possible bases for spellcasting classes.

So what other class archetype has not made an appearance/do you want to see in the future?

1000 Pandemonium stacks ruined my grift push by spawning Diablo?

    Posted: 09 Dec 2019 12:45 PM PST

Screenshot taken after I'd died and lost the stacks

Did pandemonium stacks just spawn diablo or am I retarded?

So I've been pushing solo wizard lately and managed to reach a decently high level, and so I'm in this rift that looks like its going well and I may even get 122 clear which could push me into top 50 on EU, when out of nowhere Diablo spawns and I just die. I'm not even sure it was because of him, but I was doing pretty well up to that point with no deaths and then I kind of just got oneshot? I'm so confused.

I'm assuming it's cause of the pandemonium stacks because I had just reached 1000, and I've never seen diablo outside campaign/bounties.

Is this supposed to help me somehow? I was expecting 1000 stacks to make the entire rift explode or whatever, since if the 300-400-500 effects are so strong, 1000 must be nuts right? RIGHT??

    Diablo IV World Map

    Posted: 09 Dec 2019 09:53 AM PST

Diablo IV could have an Influenced World Map!

    1. World and Monsters

    2. Items

    3. Crafting

    4. PvP

    5. Pros / Cons

    Short Intro:

The Angels and Demons try to spread their influence all over the World of Sanctuary, thus reviving the Old religions: The Cathedral of Light, The Triune, and the Nephalemic Worship

They could manage this by starting to influence different regions of the World, affecting the town, items, monsters, dungeons, etc.

Please don't hate my paint skills

Screenshot was taken from MrLlamaSC's stream / YouTube.

Region is influenced by Absolution! (Angelic Power)

Region is influenced by Damnation! (Demonic Power)

Region is influenced by Mortality! (Ancestral Power)

    1. World and Monsters

While under influence, the town vendors react different, depending on which influence took over.

Absolution: More quantity / low quality / no quests because people / vendors pray

Damnation: Low quantity / high quality / no quests because people / vendors are afraid

Mortality: no effect / can take quests from people / vendors.

Monsters and dungeons in these regions are affected by unique affixes closely tied to the Influence, on top of the ones they can spawn with.

Letting the Influence spread over time spawns Events on the World Map, or Unique Bosses in a dungeon, which can be further augmented with dungeon keys for greater rewards.

Clearing dungeons / helping NPCs in the region makes the influence smaller but moves it in the opposite direction.

If the Event is completed or the Boss in the Dungeon is killed, it will respawn somewhere else on the map, after some time, thus beginning the cycle anew.

    2. Items

Items touched by Angelic / Demonic / Ancestral Power should have their own benefits but should come with drawbacks. (regardless of item rarity/level)

Angelic > Demonic (Angelic strong against Demonic, but weak against Ancestral)

Demonic > Ancestral (Demonic strong against Ancestral, but weak against Angelic)

Ancestral > Angelic (Ancestral strong against Angelic, but weak against Demonic)

This means that Armor and Weapons are strong / weak against their counterpart.

    3. Crafting

Essence can be extracted from the "touched" item.

This can be used to enhance items, turning them into "touched" items.

Adding more essence yields greater rewards, but at the risk of destroying the item.

    E.g.: First Empower has 100% guaranteed result, 2nd has 66%, 3rd has 33%.

    4. PvP

Having "x"-amount of Angelic / Demonic / Ancestral Power turns you into their respective Aspect, and you instantly become hostile towards players of different ones, in PvP zones.

Depending on how easy/hard it is to gain Angelic/Demonic/Ancestral Power, the amount should be higher than [insert placeholder number], to be able to turn into their respective Aspect.

Whilst engaged in PvP combat, gear swap is disabled!

    Pros:

    • promotes exploration, by not having all players camp the high-level zones

    • Angelic / Demonic / Ancestral touched items for item diversity (Armory for quick gear-swap needed/preferred)

    • zone replay-ability because of the random nature of influence spawning

    • "balanced" PvP, having you decide which enemy player you engage (strong/weak against "X")

    • Aspect system promotes build variety given the bonus dmg against their counterpart.

    • Game Mode: Overlap influence from Angelic / Demonic / Ancestral Power in a PvP zone to spawn a TEAM-BATTLE ROYAL Event where x-amount (max. 4 players per Influence) battle in a Tug-of-War like event, where killing other players increases your influence up to a cap for the win. This can be also done with only 2 of the influences, for smaller skirmishes.

    Cons:

    • Ret-coning the back story to go with this game mechanic

    • Extra Development time for a starved audience

    • Damage scaling balance

    • Ability clutter in 3-way (phrasing) BATTLE ROYAL

If you managed to read this far, THANK YOU!

Redundancy of adding "NEW" class archetypes in Diablo 4

    Posted: 09 Dec 2019 09:58 PM PST

So there's a thread on the front page that's asking what "new" classes could be added to Diablo 4 that have not been already done in the past. I'd like to argue that the classic Diablo gameplay loop does not allow for a lot of creativity due to it leaning towards the most efficient ways of killing hundreds of monsters in seconds.

Right now we have 3 distinct classes:

    1. Ranged spellspammer (casts skills from afar)
    2. Melee spellspammer (casts skills in melee range)
    3. AFK summoner (relies on minions to kill enemies)

Any "new" class in classic Diablo gameplay formula is redundant since the game play for all of them is practically the same. Go in->spam spells->dodge spells->repeat.

The core gameplay doesn't allow for anything new. The spamfest HAS to change for the class picking to matter.

A single target stealthy character doesn't work, since the gameplay relies on mowing down screens of monsters.

Purely support character doesn't work for the same reason.

There are other ways to create distinct gameplay loops though

    • Changing spell input - Invoker in DOTA2 or MAGICKA.
    • Making characters spells interact with each other - the original DRAGON AGE or SPELLBREAK.
    • Or changing the combat loop all together - adding active block/parry/dodge systems and making weapon types having unique move sets (spears, swords, axes, staffs, etc.) EITR
    • Returning to the classic MMO formula of distinct roles in battle: Tank-Healer-DPS and anything in between.

This is not necessarily what I think the game needs in order to feel fresh, but is absolute must if one wants to diversify the gameplay loop.

    Diablo 3 on PS4

    Posted: 09 Dec 2019 12:30 PM PST

Diablo 3 Eternal Collection is on sale at the PS store. Is it worth it or nah? I've played Diablo 2 on PC 10-15 years ago when I was just a kid so I didn't really know what was going on. So I'm a bit out of the loop in terms of lore.

Just got a two week ban for clicking too quickly as I switched between my Diablo 2 accounts to compare character skill trees.

    Posted: 09 Dec 2019 06:23 PM PST

Blizzard support won't do anything about it and won't even confirm the reason for the ban. I can't believe any company would operate this way. Completely insane.

So much for getting to enjoy the new ladder season after pouring in hours this past weekend.

Are there any Blizzard reps on here that can help out?

What if WE are the "few" supposed to maintain the Eternal Conflict?

    Posted: 09 Dec 2019 10:06 AM PST

I was somewhat brainstorming about the purpose behind Diablo Lore and suddenly got myself thinking in some stuff about the "Eternal Conflint", as follow:
    - The whole concept of "existence" of the world of Diablo is set on the Eternal Conflict between Good vs. Evil, and therefore, Anu vs. Tathamet, Angels vs. Demons, Order vs. Chaos, Light vs. Dark, Heaven vs. Hell, Ying vs. Yang, idk, give the name/symbol you want to...
    - Anu was in conflict with itself (the malefic side of it). Then he expelled it out and brought up Tathamet - the conflict continues. They explode, Big Bang, angels vs. demons, "yata-yata", ETERNAL CONFLICT - and the show must go on.
    - No side ever seems to be able to win the war, beside some battles here and there.
    - Fate (Itherael) sees Hell as victorious in the end. (BEFORE the existence of mankind)
    - Lilith and Inarius wanted to end the war. First they escape, then they plan to "break the wheel", and then things go south, and we will be hearing more of it in Diablo IV...
    - Humans have good (angel trait) and evil (demon trait) inside then, so in this instance it is an intropective conflict.
    - It's more than estabilished that humans/nephalem/our society are able to do good and bad things, either with or without the influence of other beings.
    - Altought we have always been in the "good" side of these manicheistic dispute, the ending cinematic in Reaper of Souls reveals: "With victory in hand, I saw the Nephalem in a new light. (...) But within him beats a mortal heart that will one day be tempted to corruption...".
    - The itemization in D4 (new concept) already counts on a Angelic/Demonic power/essence been built inside the player.
    - Clans and PvP are meant to be implemented in the new installment of the francise aswell.

So, it might not happen soon (Diablo IV), not even Blizzard soon (Diablo V-VI? hahaha), but EVENTUALLY, ain't the Nephalem splitting between two factions, one being prone to the good and the other to evil, and destined to fight each other till the end of time, and so
"maintaing the balance" and fueling the Eternal Conflict?

I've never played WoW, and this kind of "two sides battling each other for power" seems more of the MMORPG genre than our ARPG,
but the whole idea of the filosophy inside Diablo isn't that there is no stopping to the War?
Will Lilith make us destroy both sides completely, put an end to the Eternal Conflict, and therefore achieving a Happy Ending to the story? Yeah, I don't know about that...

Please, share your toughts and opinions!

    Nonetheless,
    Thank you for your attention,
    Homero Borges

PS: I'm not saying that I WANT this. It's just merely a late night thought! :)

Act V, Barbarian Hireling:if he can uses barbarian only items, does he gain benefit from passive abilities?

    Posted: 09 Dec 2019 05:16 AM PST

    Title

Sorry for the noob question: can the barbarian hireling in act V gain passive abilities if I give him an item which grants them?

For example: if I gave him an horned helm which gives sword mastery +2 does he gain the stats from this passive ability?

Do bonuses like "+1 to bash" or "+1 to stun" increase his damage on these skills since he can use them?

I couldn't find an answer on the wiki, thanks for your time

[Monk] Trying to understand Tempest Rush / Sweeping Wind damage rates.

    Posted: 09 Dec 2019 03:21 PM PST

For the sake of ease lets say [Tempest Rush]'s damage is listed as 500% weapon damage, and [Sweeping Wind]'s is also listed as 500% (5 stacks @ 100% each.) No ability modifiers, attack speed, or anything else.

Do these abilities have the same DPS? (500% Weapon Damage per Second?)
Do these abilities have the same TickRate?

Or does TR tick 5 times per second for 2500%, and SW only ticks twice for 1000% ?

Median XL, Path Of Diablo, or Diablo 3?

    Posted: 09 Dec 2019 02:39 PM PST

I'm trying to decide which game I want to play and I was hoping to get some opinions. I see a lot of stuff on mods about for D2 - Median XL, Path of Diablo

I also put in hundreds of hours in Diablo 3 on console but never on PC. I thought about doing that because at least on PC there won't me any hacked gear to make the endgame boring.

At the end of the day I just want the most fun experience. Diablo 2 is my favorite game ever but it's aged and I feel like it would be difficult to get people to play with. Diablo 3 I've just spent so much time with already.

Anyway, enough rambling. Just curious on the community opinion.

Blueprints for creating interesting Special Affixes for Legendaries

    Posted: 09 Dec 2019 04:39 AM PST

In this thread I am sharing some layouts and examples that can be used to create interesting Special Affixes for Legendary Items.

Please keep in mind that the numbers, affixes and procs used here are of course just examples for the purpose of illustration.

    ===================================

For each (percentage) point of Affix X you have, gain x amount of Y

    Examples:

    • For each 5% of Frost Resistance you have, gain a 1% chance to cast Frost Nova when you get hit
    • For each 2% of Increased Lightning Damage you have, gain 1% Increased Movement Speed
    • For each 3% of Crushing Blow Chance you have, gain +130 Life per Attack
    • For each 2% of Cooldown Reduction you have, pierce through 1% of enemies Lightning Resistance
    • For each 10 points of Dexterity you have, gain a 1% chance to cast Tornado on attack
    • For each 30 point of Intelligence you have, gain a 1% chance to cast Slow Time on attack
    • For every point of Vitality you have, you gain +5 Armor
    • For every point of Dexterity you have, gain +0.2% increased damage against enemies outside of melee range

If you have at least x amount of X, gain Y

    Examples:

    • If you have at least 150 Dexterity, gain a 30% chance to knockback enemies with each attack
    • If you have at least 230 Strength, gain +250-300 Fire Damage
    • If you have at least +25.000 Life per Kill, gain 40% Increased Damage against Elite Enemies
    • If you have at least 4000 Armor, gain 30% Increased Block Chance
    • If you have at least 2000 Frost Resistance, gain a 20% chance to cast Blizzard when you kill an enemy
    • If you have at least 2500 Fire Resistance, gain a Fire Aura that deals damage to nearby enemies
    • If you have at least +500 Fire Damage on your gear, gain +200 additional Fire Damage on top of that
    • If you have at least +12 to all Skills, gain a 2% chance to reanimate slain enemies as a random Prime Evil that fights for you for 40 seconds
    • If you have at least 50% Crushing Blow Chance, enemies have a 30% chance to detonate in an Explosion of Blood and Bones when you kill them

    Transform x% of Affix X into x% Y

    Examples:

    • Transform 30% of your Dodge Chance into Armor. Each 1% of Dodge Chance transformed turns into +120 Armor.
    • Transform 50% of your Physical Resistance into flat Physical Damage. Every 1% Physical Resistance transformed turns into +15-20 Physical Damage.

If you have less than x amount of X, gain Y

    Examples:

    • If you have less than 5% Critical Hit Chance, gain 15% Culling Strike
    • If you have less than 300 Physical Resistance, gain +1500 to all non-Physical Resistances

Increases X by a large amount, but reduces X for every x amount of Y you have

    Examples:

    • Gain 200% Crushing Blow Chance, but every 1% of Increased Attack Speed reduced the amount of Crushing Blow you get by 3%

    ===================================

While you are at full health (above ~85% max health), gain X

    Examples:

    • While you are at full health, gain +130-160 Poison Damage
    • While you are at full health, you have a 25% chance to cast Fire Nova on attack
    • While you are at full health, increase your Mana regeneration by 40%

While you are not on full health (below ~85% max health), gain X

    Examples:

    • While you are not at full health, increase your attack speed by 15%
    • While you are not at full health, gain regenerate 3% maximum life per second
    • While you are not at full health, you have a 25% chance to reanimate slain enemies as Skeletons for 30 seconds

While you are on low health (below 35% max health), gain X

    Examples:

    • While you are low on health, increases your movement speed by 40%
    • While you are low on health, reduce your damage taken by 35%
    • While you are low on health, it rains down Meteors from the sky over the whole screen

While you are not on low health (above 35% max health), gain X

    Examples:

    • While you are not on low health, gain 10% Increased Block Chance
    • While you are not on low health, reduces your Resource Costs by 20%

--- the same conditions can also be applied to low/full Resource or even low/full Energy Shield if it should get implemented ---

    ===================================

After you have killed x enemies in a row, gain X (Kill Streak Bonus)

    Examples:

    • After you have killed 170 enemies in a row, go Berserk for 10 seconds
    • After you have killed 40 enemies in a row, summon a Fire Elemental for 15 seconds
    • After you have killed 50 enemies in a row, become invulnerable for 5 seconds

Gain Aura X when you equip this item

    Examples:

    • Gain the Thorns Aura while you ave this item equipped
    • Gain the Fanaticism Aura while you have this item equipped

    ===================================

If you have done X in the last x seconds, gain Y

    Examples:

    • If you killed an Elite enemy within the last 15 seconds, increase your damage against non-Elite enemies by 30%
    • If you have been low on health within the last 4 seconds, regenerate 2000 life per second
    • If you have spend 2000 Mana in the last 3 seconds, summon a Fire Elemental that fights for you
    • If you have been stationary for at least 3 seconds, gain +400 Armor
    • If you have been stationary for at least 2 seconds, you have a 20% chance to cast Meteor when you get hit

If you have NOT done X in the last x seconds, gain Y

    Examples:

    • If you have not taken damage and attacked an enemy within the last 5 seconds, you become invisible until you attack
    • If you have not been hit in the last 3 seconds, your resource regenerates 35% faster

    ===================================

I hope this can be used as a template by the Diablo 4 devs to create some very nice and interesting effects for legendary items.

If you have anything to add, write it down below!

    Thank you!

Hello everyone! I am very new to this site. This is my first post and for those interested, you can click on the google link below.

Beware, it's a very long document! I tried my best to share my view on the subject, do not take it literally as a perfectly made one, I am just a normal guy trying to "contribute" to the feedback. The goal was to give more or less successfully a conceptualize idea on what could possibly the best way to satisfy the different communities from the Diablo franchise.

There is not only text but some ugly design of me to give further details on what I tried to describe textually. No Ego conflict and disagree to disagree mentality, keep it nice and positive, please! I hope you like it and bring new discussion on what could be improved, changed and added within what I have given.

To Beta D4 or not to Beta? That is the question.

    Posted: 09 Dec 2019 12:46 PM PST

When Blizzard released Diablo 3 they refused to do a full open beta (up to level 13 only) to avoid spoilers, however this appears to perhaps have backfired on them. It wasn't until release and criticism and feedback that the game arguable got much better. Had Blizzard had a beta period they may or may not have been able to correct many features prior to launch resulting in a much different life cycle.

I think Diablo 4 could very much benefit if Blizzard were to iron out the fundamentals of the game; the world, the characters, the skills and story, and then release an open beta. They could then implement "a flavor" of the intricacies such as itemization, crafting, endgame etc. in small controlled amounts. Just enough to get positive feedback on the mechanics without spoiling the wow factor on full release. I understand the reluctance blizzard would have in doing this and it is dangerous but I think if done right it could have a huge benefits.

    what yall think?
